how long...for break-in
« on: February 11, 2023, 07:45:00 PM »
Good evening
Brand new cforce 800xc. I hear many different and sometimes conflicting theories on the break in time needed.

Shop manual says first 183 mi, no more than half throttle and no ridiculous starts(my words). Then the next 183... no more than 3/4 throttle.

Dealer says.... well they didn't, what they did say was 20 hrs or 1 tank of gas bring it in for the scheduled maintenance.... valve adjustment ect.

People whonI have met say anything from break ot in like you plan on riding it, to " yea the dealer said do this but I didn't  and I don't have any problems "

So which is it? If I follow the service manual I will be changing the fluids a couple of times before I ever run this up and drive it like I want to.

All thoughts welcome and as usual I appreciate any input.

For me Uforce 1k it was all about heat cycles.
Run it for 30/45 mins let cool
3-4 times
I did the no more half to 3/4
Keeping it varying for about 250kms dumped all fluids an ran it a lil harder for 350ish more
Then first dealer service

I`ve never followed the book on break in . My 600 touring got a couple hrs of easy riding , varying the throttle and giving a little more throttle as time passed . Then rode it like i wanted . Some people would take years to put the 183 miles on a atv. I`ve probably owned 50 motorcycles and atv`s in my life and have never followed the mfg break in .

Followed it pretty close on mine.
Did not regret it.
I felt the engine "seat" and become a stronger runner.

I did the same thing with my 2022 600. Basically rode it like it had miles on it. Changed the engine oil/filter and diff fluids after 300KM (sorry I'm Canadian) and all good. I have about 800KM now without any issues. My dealer wanted $500.00 to go over the machine....no thank you! Who knows what they do or don't do for the money unless your watching them.
