I decided to build some rock sliders after looking at the crazy prices online. I bought 1 3/4 diameter by 1/4 thick in pipe and 1 3/4 wide by 1/4 in thick flat bar.

Would like to see them. I have been thinking about modifying mine by shortening the side plating and installing some pipe railing. Haven't really had the need...yet..but someday I think it would be good to hold it away from a rock or stump to help get around it.

I went for function not fashion. So while they may look rough they will not go anywhere. My friend that did the welding said the factory mounting brackets will rip off before that pipe bends. He also said that if that did happen he would fix up a better mount for them.

Yeah those little factory brackets are pretty thin but surprisingly the CFM rock sliders just bolt to them too so..maybe not that weak after all.

I agree they will probably be ok but I did have one slightly bent from an accidental collision with a sturdy rock so we shall see. I'm sure if it can be broke then I will break it lol.

Rocks will still crush your plastics with them like that.  they need to be as wide as the rocker trim at least and come up several inches

I really want to make a set or at I should say get the material and have them put together. What's the best tubing to use as far as strength yet bendable?
I was half tempted to use sch 40 black iron and fittings, however, after some research I hear that if hit they will snap where the fittings screw together. Another said it would work but fill them with concrete. Also stated filling them doesn't add that much weight (hard to believe) but makes them extremely tough. If I had a bender it really wouldn't be an issue.
