Good day,
I jump on my Quad, put key in ignition and turn once, this is when the display should light up.
If im lucky it will but more times than not l get a blank display, so l gently turn key back and forth
until l get life, this morning l was on it for 10 mins. If l move the key while engine is running sometimes
it has stopped the engine and again no display.
What should l check first before going down the route of new ignition barrel.

I'd say the switch is worn out. Just replace it.

When you say switch are you referring to the barrel you put key into or a switch somewhere else?

Yes, the key switch is the switch you put the key into. Everything you said points toward the contacts being warn out. Replace the entire switch. You will get a new key with it.

Of course before replacement you will want to inspect the connectors and the fuse box for any corrosion.
