Full Doors take 2
« on: July 13, 2016, 07:21:56 PM »
Hi all,

My first attempt at full doors didn't quite work out as planned. Only had $15 in material in it so I decided to scrap that plan and come up with another. Went with 1/8" aluminum sheet with 3/4" square tubing backer for support. I got my sheet delivered this afternoon and headed right to the shear with my templates and had at it. Came home with two door plates and rear filler panels and ended up with one door fitted and mounted with mock up hinges. Hope to get the other side to the same point tomorrow if everything goes as planned. Then I can work on mounting the filler panels and latches.

Not to bad. I like finally having something to rest my arm on. Once all the inner structure is in place and tig welded I will probably take them in to work and do a either slight arc across the top with the press break using a big round top die and a rubber bottom die or do a V bend from about a third of the way across the top to the 2 bottom corners to open it up a little. Then I will fit my rear filler panel into place

I agree. That's why I scrapped the first one. Like the way the 1" square tube fit at the factory door hing mounts that I left in place. Gave the new setup a nice sturdy hinge point.

Looking good!
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

The reassembly begins. Still looking for a smaller slam latch or like setup. Exterior all coated with bed liner coating.
