Shift from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive. Indicator does not immediately switch to 2 wheel drive. Why?

May be several things but if there is a load on the coupler, the actuator can't move it very well so can't be on or off the gas when shifting. Have to be in a neutral state or stopped. The other most common reason is is failing actuator or in very cold conditions the 80w90 needs to be changed out to 10w40...but I wouldn't think that would be the problem in AZ.
