Looking into the front bearings a question comes to mind. I see postings that refer to greasing them but they look like sealed bearings. Is this the case?
They are what I call a split bearing. That is a single outer race with two separate inner races and bearing sets. With no load or hub installed, that gap between the two inner races allows grease to be fed up through it and through the...what I feel is..unsealed sections. So that when a greaser is used it flows in both direction toward the outer "sealed" sides. When greasing however you must do two things so as not to warp or push out too much on those outer seals...which are really just dust covers as they won't actually seal against water intrusion. One, you must pump very slowly so as not to damage the seals and two, you must rotate the bearing as you grease so it clears the old grease and pushes it out evenly through the outer seals. Doing so will fill most all the airspace inside the bearing and when you wipe off the old excess it doesn't hurt to leave a layer over the cover/seal. I have a post on some greasers I found that do work. A bit of a PITA but I guess it's worth it. Mine were OK just dry. If they show wear they have to be replaced.
