First Service after Break In Period
« on: July 18, 2023, 06:28:20 PM »
What's up CFMOTO peeps........i'm at my first service after the break-in period, well actually based on my owner's manual i'm "overdue".  2023 UFORCE 1000 with 400 miles, the manual says 200 miles or 20 hours.  Anyways, called the dealership and they want to do the oil, air filter, front and rear diffs, lube, other fluid checks, etc. to the tune of $800+.  Here's my question to you all, is it worth it?  I change the oil on my own cars but I am getting lazy.  The manual says oil, air filter, check diffs, coolant, etc.  I have a Uni Filter coming so I'm not worried about the air filter. Do the diff fluids really need to be changed?  I have yet to put it in 4WD because I do a lot of pavement and dirt roads.  Is the "stealership" just trying to make a quick buck?  I'll do the engine oil myself for that price.  Your thoughts........

$800 bucks for just oil changes and air filter is IMO highway F*k'n robbery. My dealer told me if I did my own and kept logs including what I used, and if it all met the requirements, it wouldn't effect my warranty. So I did... as well as set my own valves and everything else that they wouldn't have done. I say if it doesn't effect the warranty, do it all yourself...and YES, change the diffs and transmission oil. They have gears and things that break-in too and there is lots of trash floating around in there. You will see some of it on the magnetic plugs.

Dealers love inept people that can't do basic service.   Yep... Expect to pay 'bank' if you can't twist a wrench.  .....Simple basic stuff.

If you can't do the work, quit bitching and pay the bill.

I did my 'initial' in 3 hours for $0 dollars.  Ok.. not zero... cause I had to pay for 75w90 gear oil from WalMart for a few bucks.

Sorry to be so blunt........

Ok, let me try this again after reading what I initially wrote.  Yes, $800 is robbery, I know that.   I forgot to mention they check the valve clearance and adjust it as well.  I guess my biggest question is because I've read and watched different videos, is it really necessary to change both diff oils so early?  Some say yes, others say no, way too early.

CFM uses compacted steel for a lot of their gears and they leave a lot of trash in the oil during breakin so you better do it...cause all that also goes through all the bearings as well. Pull the plug on one and check it. If its clean and clear with almost nothing on the plug, then cap it up and top it off and go a while. But if not...

Bro.. you got the "Stealer Treatment"..........

So much on our machines, is work you can do with a little effort and YouTube knowledge.   Yeah, online videos are flippin GOLD.

I did my own 200 mile service and out of 8 valves, I only had to adjust 3 of them.

Dumping the lube in the Diff's and Tranny and replacing is a piece of cake.

Learned this lesson recently on my 1st service with dealer service department the hard way. I asked a simple question about the fuel gauge hadn't been responding on my first few rides of 40-45 miles. I didn't expect them to charge $149 for a fuel gauge check. On top of that, they wanted to do a front-end alignment. Said they had noticed a slight drift to the left. I actually started to catch on and said no. Just finished a 155 mile ride the day before with no issues with alignment. Never going back there again, unless for warranty.
