Hello I purchased a top end rebuild kit and when I opened the package I discovered that one of the piston rings has a recessed area along the entire circumference. My question is should this recess be facing to the top or bottom of the piston. It is a aftermarket kit and the old rings dont have this?

Sorry to all out there it looks like the old rings do have this recess and it is on the 2nd ring from the top and it faces down?
