I'm sure you can find out if Main does or not...I'm thinking it doesn't as I remember another member talking about it. Still..they should let you bring it to the outside and put another filter on it without any kind of snorkel or stack...I would think.

I wonder if that's for environmental concerns or is the state just doing its part to support the piston and con rod industry?

I don't know how true it is but I've been told it their effort to preserve their delicate wetlands. They assume the less a vehicle is equipped to enter the deep water, the less they will..stray into those areas.

I just watched a copy of the '97 movie 'Dante's Peak' set in Wallace Idaho where I did some great ORV riding in the CFM last year. Hero Pierce Brosnan drove a big old American truck that I noticed early on, just happened to have a high intake snorkel going up the A pillar.
Sure enough when all the townsfolk are fleeing the erupting volcano that looms over the town (yup) the only bridge outta ton is clogged with traffic and Pierce heads for the river and plunges in.
The Chevy is windshield deep and Linda Hamilton screeches as the water is gurgling in, and the camera flashes underwater shots of the tires spinning on rocks. Other cars try it too, and of course stall out and drift downstream.

I won't reveal whether pierce, Linda and the two kids get away from the volcano in the end. Hurray for snorkels. Good thing it wasn't shot in Maine.  8)
