Exhaust on 2014 800 ex
« on: March 21, 2017, 05:29:51 PM »
Has anyone tried to remove the baffling out of the muffler rather then buy an over priced slip on pipe? Did it mess with the O2 sensors?

I took the end out and installed a 2". Without the spark arrester it did run too lean. I installed an HMF arrester and it's just barely in the system's range. That's in the How Tos.

Well, it did increase the flow...that's why it leaned out so much...and yes, it did make it a little louder. There are some sound bits on videos in the post and on my YouTube channel. Just clink the link in my signature.

Here's one:

I am all for someone who wants to build their own stuff.  I encourage it actually!  If you read 99% of my posts on here is me cutting things up and making my own.  But it drives me nuts when people who want to build their own stuff dont want to do it right.  So PLEASE!!!!! If you cut the factory muffler up get a fuel tuner of some kind to make it the right Air/fuel ratio.  Dont just hack it together and say "look its good now".  That just gives everyone who builds their own stuff a bad name.  I understand people are trying to save money on things but dont cut corners that will bite you in the tail end later.  Ok rant is over LOL

On a side note.  I built a exhaust out of a Yoshimura muffler and I love the sound of it.  Rodin also built me one out of what looks like a stock muffler.  And I have another exhaust on its way from Thailand to test out.  All of the mufflers will be individually tuned for the right A/F ratio for the motor with that muffler.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Agreed. That's why on mine I can always pop 3 bolts and have it back to stock at will...in fact I did that on my last video to see if it made a difference. Don't do anything you will regret or can't reverse. The stock EFIs on these don't have a wide injector pulse width that can operate in so be careful...or get a controller.

Not planning to do it in a trashy way. Just trying to see what my options are rather then spend $400 for just a slip on pipe. One of the guys I ride with actually used a flowmaster muffler on his Kawasaki and it runs good and sounds good.

Wont last though.  Flowmasters all rust out even on cars.  Put them in the dirt and they are not long for this earth.

Is there any good cheaper slip on pipes for four-wheelers or anything else that would work fine with my cfmoto

The best thing about slip-on pipes is that it really make sit sound like you are going faster versus actually going faster. If you are into that sorta thing.

Decent amount of experience driving a Z8 w/power commander and two brothers... nothing special.

oh, sorry. I don't think my post said I was 1st to say that. Just lending a little experience hoping to OP doesn't spend all this money hoping for a huge feel in performance gain.
