This pertains to my 2025 CF500 but I wasn't sure if other Force models suffered from the same well-reported shifting issues.  When on level ground, it shifts effortlessly.  But if NOT on level ground, it can range from troublesome to nearly impossible.

I was on a rugged northeastern NY trail during the week that includes a steep section with lots of large rocks.  I was in 4WD Low and got into a spot where I couldn't proceed and needed to back up a bit.  Of course, I couldn't get the machine shifted into reverse. 

I tried the usual rocking the machine back and forth as I tried to shift (which was pretty much impossible as I was in between two large rocks), briefly going forward a tiny bit and then grabbing the brakes, and I also tried shifting to 2WD and trying it all again.  No success. 

I ended up being able to dig out and roll aside (luckily) the large rock that the front right wheel was jammed up against, lock the differential, get off the machine, and walk it out of the predicament.  But what if I hadn't been able to do that?

Is there a trick to getting the machine to shift in a situation like this?  One thing I didn't try but wish I had, was to turn off the engine and then try everything I did try to get it to shift into reverse.

I really love this machine except for the shifting issue.

On the new machines without the wet clutch such as yours f there is any load on the transmission and any input from the CVT...even if it's just what's applied with the one-way/idler bearing, the shift drum and fork assembly can not move it out f the selected position. YES, in all cases usually eliminating one of these will allow it to shift so yes, next time shut the engine off, put it in neutral, then restart. In time as the dogs and gear teeth get more broke-in and polished and you switch to a synthetic the assembly will move easier and may not have to shut it off. But for now never force it as the forks will bend and break.

Thanks... I'll try shutting it off and shifting next time.  No riding for another day or two here; currently under an "ice storm warning" and then another couple of days of rain possible after that.
