engine failure. options?
« on: October 20, 2017, 04:02:00 PM »
I have a 2014 ex800 zforce with 850 miles on it.  Took to dealer today as it wasn't running well.  They diagnosed total engine failure.  $5000.  Does anyone know of any other options / aftermarket / engine swap / etc..  thanks

Many dealers are lazy and unskilled, they don't seem to rebuild engines. When they say total engine failure, how is that? That is likely not true, that to me means it would have to be catastrophic failure with a hole in the block or severe cylinder wall scoring. Did it just lose compression? If so it probably needs pistons and rings, you could do an engine rebuild for a LOT cheaper than $5k if you can do it yourself. If you can't do it yourself and decent mechanic can for more like half that price. I would be asking the dealer what exactly is wrong and why it can't be rebuilt.
