Wow...that is a huge difference. I guess if it is shorter, then it has to be narrower to set anywhere close to the same rationing the stock belt did. Has anyone tried this Gates belt?

https://www.amazon.com/Gates-Drive-ZForce-CForce-40C3691/dp/B01COA7YGQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468528239&sr=8-1&keywords=40c3691

That belt is the same as the 40G3691 except it's their carbon belt.

MY experience is the belt is shorter than the original (Bando) and caused me some top end issues. STM also highly recommends avoiding gates belts because they are made of a hard material that causes premature wear on the clutch sheaves. That gates belt also would be incompatible with anyone who chose to go with the kit.

Although more expensive I've had my best luck with OEM. Theyve lasted through my abuse.

The ONLY reason I had to replace the belt was because of clutch testing (after changing the weights and springs we wanted to start with a fresh belt) and this last time I blew an oil seal on the wet clutch cover (my fault) and it took the belt out (oil saturation).

I can't say I've enjoyed or had good luck with the Gates, but others may. Just my 2 cents.

I have seen MANY Gates belts come apart and destroy other parts when they do.  Not on the CF Moto's but on other machines.  I will most likely avoid them like the plague. Does anyone have any specs on the belts like lenght and width and thickness?

How many miles can vary a TON.  what size tires? Mud? Dust? Hot environment? Are you keeping the belt cool? Belts like tires can harden up over the years also and become less flexable/dry rot.  You should be able to get around 1500 miles out of a belt if you are taking good care of your machine and you got a good quality belt to start with mine has ~1200 miles but had a hard life before I got the machine so im sure that shortened its life up a bit.

Exactly. I'm hard on my machine. VERY hard on it. Once I got the (what I believe will be the final set up) machine back from STM this last time I went out to the sand pits, put her in 4x4 and drove the dog poo out of it. The pedal hit the floor and didn't leave. I want to see how hard I could push it. Went I got back I had a belt slipping and a blown oil seal. BUT like I said I was stupid hard on it and in 4x4 in deep soft sand.

My point, like chuddly, is its all about how you ride, and how your machine is set up. My is moded. I expect to blow belts. But for a stock machine for a normal moderate rider you should be able to get a couple thousand out of a belt easy.

I had posted them somewhere with the dimensions of the stock (bando) Dayco and Gates

I been useing this belt for about a month now and so far so good no issues power is the same and runs as it should.
Oh that's right...I forgot. Good to hear it's doing OK. I know you aren't babying it either...lol

No I drive it like its stolen lol! But now that I think about it I lost a little bit on the top end or just a little longer to get to top speed, but not sure if it's the belt or my 23g sliders maybe I'll switch belts back to oem and report back and take video.

Wow..what a rip-off. Most OE belts in the rest of the world are under 130. I think I am going to try this one first when the time comes.

Although they both fit the 800s, the 40C3691 being carbon cored is rated (at least as I've been told) for the heavier SxS over the lighter ATV. I would use it in either. I still can't understand why the OE CFL belt is over 300 bucks. That's twice as high as any other belt I know. Even my OE Kawasaki Teryx belt in my Brute was only 125.

This weekend I pulled my Z force 800ex apart to do some clutch work and discovered my belt of only about 100 "around the yard" miles and 1 race was coming apart and most likely would not have lasted a second race.  I threw my Bando back on because at least its threads are intact.  I ordered a Gates so we will see how that works out.  I will admit I race mine so my use leans towards the extreme side but it should last more than 1 race (25 miles).

Yikes..from my experience with Kawasaki clutches, I see that when the sheaves have lost their taper in an area and the pressure is on the top of the belt. Usually because of wear during engagement on the primary or slippage during full shift-out on the secondary..where ever the contact area is smallest. Ours are different but the concept is the same. Might check the bottoms of the sheave zones for anything that looks like this:

I had a VERY VERY slight wave in it (kind of like the picture but 1000X less) I didnt feel bad about it at all but I was able to take a flat file and re flatten the sheave faces and then sand them smooth again with 220 grip sand paper.  Literally it was 3 passes with fine file and it was flat again. So nothing that should have caused the excessive wear like that.

In Europe is a guy with a ATV ( the X8 ) with his first belt ans rollers with 31 thousand km.......

He opens the vario every 3000 km; cleans it an puts grease on the rollers and in the slides. He drives every where it is possible. Every year he makes a trip to Afrika and drives there 3 - 4 thousand km in the sand.
He works it in the snow with a plow en transports wood. Unbelievable
Gr. Cees.

CFM U800 with 4406 km.

My OEM belt burned off at 2,200 miles.  Hard to get to the UForce belts compared to say Polaris, since the housing is under the right rear of the driver's seat.  I had a mechanic do it.  Running the Gates standard belt now and it has worked well for about 400 miles, with lots of snow plowing last winter.  It was only about $60 to purchase but about $150 for labor.  I notice no difference in performance from the OEM belt.
