CVT TRans in High Range
« on: November 24, 2020, 07:58:57 PM »
Does it stress the CVT transmission to use it in Hi range when speeds are low 10-15mph through hilly rocky terrain....like it would to be in a high gear w a standard geared transmission?

still learning CVT

Pain sometime to have to stop and switch lo to hi when running w a group

Belt driven set up, at those speeds and on inclines and rocky conditions operate in low range or you will burn your belt up.

Yeah it depends on what type it is and the the load on the belt or wet clutch. Rule#1-never allow the belt or the wet clutch to slip for any prolonged period. Maintain a high enough RPM to ensure solid engagement. If high range makes that too fast for the conditions, use low range. Rule#2-When climbing steep inclines or pulling loads the belt.. and engine will have the most load on it. Minimize that load by using low range like you would in any vehicle if the need is there. Heat and overloading is the #1 belt killer. Slipping is the #2. The best advise I can give is first understand how it all works, and then know your machine well as any good operator would.

Low range is definitely the way to go when going slow on inclines. The trails I ride keep me in low most of the time. And you can still go pretty fast in low range without damaging or overworking anything.
