Well..dog poo...after ordering all these parts and buying the box and drilling all those holes on the box lid and the 3" port I decided to see how it was going to sit on the machine behind the plastics ..which I had marked to cutting...and there is no fracken way it will set in there and miss the all the frame pieces and not stick out and hit the seat. I tried everywhere...even if I cut the upper loop off of the pipe completely and mounted it straight up there. I can modify the box to be a kind of triangle shape..but then the filter won't fit..Dog gone it. It's looking like either this thing needs to be outside on a snorkel or there needs to be something built in-line underneath.

Well, there's one other thing I can try..cross your fingers.

Thanks but I think room and position of most any box in that area is the biggest issue. Here and little documentary video I did on it to remind myself of the issues:

By the way, yes, it is now all back together and ready to ride. I'll look at this again a bit later. When the filter and other parts get here I'll assemble the filter box and post pics or it and those parts.

I think the flat filter is my focus right now. I'm thinking a custom box is needed, but still hoping to find a pre-made one. The Buick lasaber air box gave me some ideas.

Maybe your Z6 has some extra room in the engine area for one of those...or one of the ones you showed at first.

I was thinking of something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Flanders-Natural-Aire-filter-Fits/dp/B000JQG19Y/ref=sr_1_2?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1470058145&sr=8-2&keywords=washable+air+filter+cut&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011
Its high flowing so restriction shouldnt be an issue.  You can cut it to the EXACT shape you want.  Washable.  You could cut 2 to the right size/shape and keep an extra in your glove box also.  Now will it filter out EVERY small thing.  Nope.  But for a CVT that is not all that important.  From what i have found they have a MERV rating of 5 (http://www.mechreps.com/PDF/Merv_Rating_Chart.pdf) so it should keep 99% of the stuff out of the CVT that we are looking at keeping out.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

Yeah..you could put several in the glove box and just clean the dirty ones when you get home. Nice idea! and easy too.

I think the filter material might be ok. Just need a box of proper size and shape and a way to keep water out. I was also thinking about the canister type in the box, but I will loose the space and it will look odd.

I'm hoping you make it work. I haven't started mine in earnest yet, but will very soon. Got all the machines up and ready for a big ride coming up but will be looking at this after that.

I hope so. I think I have an idea. Anyway yeah I have a big Rigid shop vac with a 2.5" hose I put to this thing and stuffed my vacuum gauge line in with it to see how much restriction there was. I know the vac moves probably 10 times or more what the CVT does at max RPMs and the gauge didn't register anything..even with the lid on...so I think the filter & box size are good.
