Coolant?
« on: August 01, 2016, 07:25:11 PM »
On the zforce where is the Overflow for the coolant when I picked up the new 500 Z-Force I noticed there's coolant on the skid plate on the right rear and it looked like it was near the water pump dealer told me that is where the Overflow is located and it was just over filled possibly tonight when washing it I noticed the coolant in the reservoir tank was on the lower mark and there was coolant on the skid plate

Well...not sure about the 500s but most all the 800 engines have a slight leak in the water pump's mechanical seal that stops within 200 miles after it wears-in. That...is what you see on the back. It isn't much but will deplete the overflow over time. The overflow is located next to the radiator under the front hood. Just take it off and you will see it on the right side with a rubber cap on top. Use either green 50/50 mix or use one that is compatible with all other coolants and 50/50 mix. And its OK to over fill it for a while. Sometimes when its cold check the radiator. It should be full to the very top...no air gaps.  And if that leak doesn't quit is 200 miles, take it in. They will need to replace that seal. They have a new one piece deal now I hear.

Keep a close watch on it and keep the res. full. Don't need that new engine over heating. Like I say, this is what the 800s have. Not sure if it applies to the 500s.

Yeah that's the weep tube. They really shouldn't put it up like that because it allows the chamber between the mechanical seal and the oil seal to be full of coolant. That could damage the oil seal or pass by it into the engine. On mine they had nothing but by the time Jogon30 got his they put a tube on it. I would be REAL tempted to take it out of the holder and drop it down so it drains easily and completely.

Ok i will take it down so it can drain and i guess wait till i get more miles on it to see if it stops leaking on a good note though I check my airbox and it was dry and not a single drop of oil

If it happens after being heated, I'd check for a small pin hole leak by the ends of the hose. Who ever made the hoses put tags through em.

It's just a drain tube for the weep port.

mine is the 2012 z6 and i had to replace the mechanical seal at around 800 miles. They do have the 1 piece water pump which makes it so much easier vs just changing the seal and it is not much more money either. Drain the oil and coolant pop off the hoses take out the two bolts that are missing on the new pump and pull on it it comes out hard but it comes out. pop the new one in and replace the hoses put in coolant and oil fire it up. I had to take the small hose off the thermostat to vent out air i found that easier than anything else.

Well I am going to let the dealer do the work on this if I have to because it is under factory warranty and only had a hundred and twelve miles on it and I don't want to do anything that would void the warranty I spoke to the dealer and they said between 100 and 200 miles to seel it should seal itself but they went ahead and put me on the schedule for a service appointment just to be safe and said it would be covered under warranty

That's the rite call on getting them to fix it. As he said, the one piece design is pretty nice. I have had to do others that make you take the whole side of the engine apart and that's no fun.
