Of course it is not normal!

Where are the bushings?

Install new bushings. Don't drive it that way.

What year is it?

OMG! Like Doug80638 says, don't move that another inch without putting some bushings in it. Bushings are cheap...a-arms are NOT :) Hope it's not already too late. Bank on getting bushings and sleeves.
What concerns me is that the bushing ends are only about 1/4" thick so that accounts for about a 1/2" of that end play...but I see much more then that. Either it has the wrong arms on it or they are already peened way down from being used like that....slamming back and forth.

Neither, they are a form of polyurethane. I have a video in the How Tos on bushings in my z800 that might be of help.

There are several online stores that sell bushings.  What year is your machine?

I bought a full set for my Z from MortchMotor.com for ~$100, which is cheap by comparison to the prices in the states. That did not include sleeves, just the bushings.
