Common clutch noise or not?
« on: September 09, 2017, 07:59:12 AM »
I am new to this forum and am a new owner of a ZForce 800 Trail. I purchased this ZForce 800 Trail with 200 miles on it so it's more new than used.  I noticed that the clutch makes a loud sound when I let off the gas. It sounds like a loud whining sound.  I just returned from a NM Elk hunting trip and have now noticed a small amount of oil that is leaking from the right rear side now as well.  I don't know where it's coming from? I went to take the bike back to the dealership and they told me that the warranty is now over since the 2016 SxS was originally purchased in April of 2016. I purchased this bike in July of 2017.  Can anyone tell me if these are things to be concerned with?  Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. To answer your question, any oil or coolant leak is something to be concerned about so that should be found and fixed. As for the deceleration sound, I too own an 800 trail (in 2015 they called them 53s) and does not make any whining sound but does clunk with excessive (IMO) drivetrain play. With CFM's reputation of loose bolts and other items, I would pull the CVT cover and inspect everything and check the clutch retainers. There is also one other thing that can cause that noise and that's the oneway bearing and/or the wet clutch...and both are known to have failed early on in a few units. While the cover is off, try to turn the primary in the direction it wants to.. then snap it toward the direction it doesn't. If it slips or feels funny, there may be a problem with the oneway bearing. The wet clutch will have to be removed for inspection. Not an easy task.

Just a question for you and will address Emerson. I'm tearing apart my cfmoto to fix what is suppose to be a rod bearing knock. And I discover the manual where your it disconnects oil deliver pipe clamp. Section 5-2 in service manual. My sxs clearly doesn't have this return there is nothing but a bolt clearly from the factory. I'm confused be a cfmoto should be wet clutch and the oil is suppose to flow through this. And clearly as of today it is not run like the service manual. I bought this as a one owner of less than a year and only upgrade was a two brother exhaust. Is this something I should contact cfmoto about. I can post pictures if needed to better explain.

You mean yours does not have this delivery pipe? (#5) As many times as I have had my CVT cover off I can't remember seeing one on mine either but I'm pretty sure...if it was supposed to have it...and it doesn't...that's a problem.
