Clunking noise in rear end
« on: July 09, 2020, 12:36:30 AM »
I have a 2017 zforce 800 trail. Whenever letting off the gas or when hitting bumps without giving it any gas, there is this clunking noise that comes from the back end. It doesn't seem to be as noticable when in low range. Any idea what this could be? It's done it since the day I got it and hasn't gotten any worse.

Mine also does this...and always has. I thought it sounded like a broken frame but never found anything and it only does it ..mostly.. when going down hill on a rough trail with the gas off and using the engine brake. Some testing I did points to the drive train bouncing back and forth against the two sides of all the slop..or play under certain conditions..and mine has a lot of it.

I have seen a few threads about this. i have same issue oin 15 z8ex. I have checked cvt, fresh oil with no metal in old oil or filter. checked rear for play. nada. Mine almost sounds like its internal which makes me sad. I am going to check cv axles and splines next. Only hear it under load until wide open its gone. My new 2020 doesn't have this sound.

It’s like backlash. It’s just the engine catching up to the transmission or vice versa.
