Check your nuts!

A guy from Spain just posted some ugly photos on CF Moto Z force Nation (Facebook) of his LR spindle and knuckle area  damage, from as he says, the axle nut backing off and allowing that rear wheel hub to come apart. These are supposed to be torqued to 120 Ft. Lb. and cotter pinned. His wheel bearing has come apart too  and is awfully dry.

When I recently replaced the wheel bearings on my 800 I too found that one of the front axle nuts was finger wiggling loose, held only by the cotter pin! I never had that hub apart. This means it had to have been spun on finger tight and cotter pinned sloppy like that for the whole 10,000 kilometers.

This suggests that someone on the CF Moto assembly line who is responsible for torquing axle nuts, is letting the odd one get by him un tightened. It's been pointed out the wisdom of going over a new CF Moto and ensuring the various fasteners are tight, but an axle nut? Come on man, Somebody needs a trip to the manager's office for some serious remedial attention.

For we owners I'd suggest at the least to lift each end of the vehicle and remove the dust caps, and give each axle nut a wiggle with your fingers to see if it's loose. Also ensure the cotter pin is properly secure. Taking the cotter pin out and torquing the axle nut wound be better.

Yep!
First thing I did to my new rig was to touch about every single bolt with my two torque wrenches.
I am pleased to report I found not one out of spec.
But, remember I'm one of new owners of 800's that in my case only got 21 miles out of my rig before they replaced (in the process) the entire engine. Little to no oil pressure, and rod, and/or main bearing knock.

As a side note, my buddy FINALLY (4-months wait) received delivery of his Can-am Maverick Trail, and guess what? No oil pressure!
His new motor is en route to his dealer.
