CForce 500 No Electrical Power!
« on: June 21, 2022, 07:32:17 PM »
Hey guys I am new here but I’m looking for some help. I have a 2018 CForce 500 HO (CF500AU-6L). I bought it brand new from the dealer back in 2018 and have loved it up until now. The machine has seen very little use (under 300 total miles). I basically only use it for hunting/fishing/trapping, occasionally plowing the driveway, and working on my garden/food plots. The other day I was riding out to my garden to spray, and the machine died. I was in gear and going maybe 2-3mph. I Wasn’t sure what had happened, so turned the key off, turned it back on and the dash flashed on for maybe 1 second and then blank screen, no lights, sounds, anything. Figuring it was somehow a battery issue I grabbed my jump pack, nothing. So I took the battery out and put it on a charger for 24 hours, nothing. I’ve checked the 30 amp fuse coming off the battery and it is good. I’ve checked the fuses in the front and they are also fine. I am completely lost on what to do. Obviously it’s not under warranty anymore, and I really can’t afford a trip to the dealer for service. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I’m looking for any and all suggestions to try, if anyone needs more info let me know, Thanks for the help

Many of the 18s and 19s had main fuse holder issues. The fuse was OK but the crimp connection inside were bad. Some shows heating but most didn't. Probe the wires going in and out of it with the key and lights on. If bad, one side, the battery side will show what there is at the battery. The other side...the side that powers everything, will be very much less. If this the case it must be replaced. If this isn't the case and all is good, then look to the key switch, kill switch and both Aux relays.

Thank you for the help, after doing some tests I believe the fuse harness is the culprit. Any suggestions on where to get a new one from? I’ve never had to order any parts for my atv yet, should I get a CF Moto fuse harness, or just find a 40 amp harness off Amazon or somewhere? Thanks

It's likely they have fixed the problem by now so it should be OK to get a new one from CFM..IF..it alone can be replaced without replacing the entire harness. Otherwise I would get one of these Maxi fuse holders and a 20 amp Maxi fuse to go with it and some shrink tubing. Cut out the old and solder it in place. The 8awg wire is way too big but you will never have to worry about it again. These are very large units..I have some pics. Be sure the holder is bad first though.

Well I have a new development. I got the new Maxi fuse holder and installed it last night. I was really hoping that would fix it, but I was wrong. Nothing changed. So I started looking into it more and I found the issue. I made a jumper wire and put it from the positive battery terminal to the studs on the starter relay. First stud nothing happened, I touched it to the 2nd stud and the engine turned over and tried to start. I pulled the starter relay out and saw that attached to it was another fuse holder, but it had no fuse in it and was also slightly melted/burnt (see pictures). The fuse holder says 30 amp on it, so I grabbed a 30 amp fuse and tried to put it in, but problems. I can’t get the fuse in because there is some piece of metal on each side preventing it. But when I touch the fuse to where it should go, the dash lights up. I balance the fuse in position and the dash turns on, I hit the starter button and she starts right up. My question now is, what is this part? It sits on top of the starter relay and has a wiring harness plugged into it. Obviously I need to replace this but should I also replace the starter relay (I found they relay and it’s about $40). Thanks for all the help so far guys I really appreciate it. I need to get it up and running soon to get my food plots in!

Must be a safety for the starter or an aux main fuse...and clearly it's a cluster-F'k. The old ones don't have such silliness. Probably needs the complete assembly to be right.

Bringing this one back to life from awhile ago. Today I took a quick ride and when I stopped to reverse it in the trailer I lost all power. Thinking it was the battery I noticed when I touch it to the power at first, it starts to cycle through the startup routine but stops 2 seconds into it. The winch has power but nothing else. Checking the fuses I have power but not at the relay. It’s dark now and I have to travel for work in the morning but wanted to ask if you everd figured out what the part was or what your outcome was? I’m sure I can look find it looking at an online diagram but wanted to ask your outcome first. Thanks.

Check the main fuse holder itself...not the main fuse. They have had lots of issues with bad internal crimps inside the holder itself.

I just looked and it appears to be fine. I back probed the wires with a test light and also inspected the fuse and holder all looks well.

What’s weird is when I take the battery terminals off and reconnect them it starts to cycle.

On the green starter fuse the two thicker wires have power to them. For the thinner wires they don’t show power. I’m not sure what the thin wires are for so until I get the diagram I’m a bit stumped. I checked the relays and fuses already.

I’ll dive in more when I get home. I did see people mention a glass fuse? Don’t recall seeing this. Just the 30a starter relay fuse and the 40a fuse just checked.

To circle around to close this up for anyone in the future, in my case it was the 5 amp horn fuse that blew, replaced that and the dash started working.
