CFMOTO warranty support with own maintenance
« on: June 12, 2017, 03:18:16 PM »
Hey everyone. I am nearing 300km on my 2016 Force 500 Trail now. I have a question for everyone out there. I am capable of doing all of my own maintenance for this service and was wondering how CFMOTO would view that if down the road I need some warranty work. I plan on keeping all bills and receipts for materials/parts used and will document each and every service. Any comments? Is anyone else in the same boat? The dealership here is so hard to get into and when you do your toy stays there forever.  >:(

Keep the receipts and document what mileage you did the services should be fine.

Make sure you use CFMOTO oils (engine and differential oils) from your CFMOTO Dealer during the warranty period. If you use anything else while still under warranty CFMOTO Canada may/will not honor the warranty should you have any issues. This came from the dealer I use here.

Use a cfmoto filter,  yippy don't have to use thier oil,  they don't even have a cfmoto oil here.  You just have to use an oil that meets thier spec.

Thanks guys. I think that I am going to take a chance and do my own servicing. I called the dealer today and they said that they aren't even sure when they could look at it. It might be 2 days or a week or more to even look at it. I will use a CFMOTO oil filter and other CFMOTO parts but it won't be going back there.

It is not taking a chance on your part. It is knowing it will be done right. Good for you!

The only thing I have purchased from the dealer is an oil filter. All the oils have come from another source from day 1 and my Uforce 500 is still under warranty. Like others have said simply keep your receipts and buy quality oil.

What kind/brand of oil do you use?

I drive my Uforce 500 very little as it is used mainly for yard work and hunting. Maybe 200 kilometers a year hence I only do 1 oil change to cover all 4 seasons from -25C to +35C. Since it is a dry clutch any automotive type oil will work but my preferred one is Mobil 1 0W40 synthetic available at CTC. Usually purchase it when it goes on sale.

The 0W is probably overkill with the milder winters we are now having in this region so may consider 5W40 on my next oil change if available.

Good for you buddy! I do all of my own work also, and have been doing so for years. It's part of the ownership experience. I have noticed that these CFMOTO machines are not bad machines, but mostly poorly assembled from the factory or from the lack of dealer prep. Some of the stupid things that I have discovered may eventually be the demise of this company and that is what I find shameful! If a customer is unable to recognize an issue and they bring it to the dealer for diagnosis and they begin throwing parts at the machine in an attempt to fix it, it is only a matter of time for the customer to begin perceiving the machine is a piece of junk when in fact it is not. I really hope CF makes genuine improvements in R&D, and assembly as these machines are worthy competition to the big four Japanese manufactures.

I use rotella t6 after the break in period, good for wet clutch and a heavy duty oil. I use that in my 2015 Z1000 and 93 Goldwing as well.
