Why should the 800 owners have all of the fun?

The fiberglass hoods looked the same to me so I checked and found that the part numbers were identical for the Z8 and Z6, and with the nearest dealer 3 hours from me NMK helped me out by confirming that the 800 and 600 had the same width between the cage top and bottom and while the height of the cage vertically was less on the Z6 it was sufficiently long enough to mount the movable panel,  so fairly confident that I could make it work I pulled the trigger and had one shipped to me in Costa Rica, $120 extra shipping and no sending it back this thing had better work...I got lucky. The bottom panel bolted right in a perfect fit, but the upper panel needed a small adjustment, first, the L shaped upper bracket that is normally attached to a plastic clamp on block wouldn't work, the cage on the Z6 is a few inches lower and the upper bracket was too long, rather than redoing the front cross member of the cage I  decided to cut the upper part of the L bracket and weld it directly to the cage, after a few careful measurements we cut the bracket and welded it in, prior to welding the brackets on I had placed the upper panel in position and found that the Lexan panel had to be rounded on each upper corner because it would not clear the cage, easy fix with tape to protect the Lexan and a fine blade on my jigsaw the problem was solved, now there is about 3/16" clearance between the Lexan panel and the cage when you open the window.

I still have one minor fix to do, when the window is fully open it pushes up against the 2 lower points of the roof, it works OK but there will be some rubbing and scuffing of the window and rather than cut the points back an inch or so I decided to move the lower mounting points of the gas supports lower so that the window will not rise as high when the supports are fully extended, this will also solve another thing that I don't like, when the window is presently opened all the way it is angled upward past a horizontal position, to me it looks stupid and more importantly I am concerned that the upward angle will create a lot of upward force on it when driving at any kind of speed, so I need to undo the brackets and let the struts extend all the way out and mark the new holes when the window is horizontal or maybe slightly below horizontal.

I haven't had a chance to ride with the new window but it sure looks great and works smoothly, I plan to ride with it open all of the time unless it's raining and it is important to me that it does not block my vision when open, for me the lower panel is below my eye level and even when the upper window is open in the horizontal position or less it is way above my eye level, I am replacing a half window that I cut to 1/3 so I could see over it and a soft vinyl window that rolled down and snapped on to it when I needed it, it was a PITA and visibility through it was bad when dry and horrendous when raining...right now I am a happy camper ;D

Ha...starts raining didn't you see the rain on the windshield, it just started to rain when I was finishing the installation at 5:30 and it is still raining at midnight. We are known for our rain forests here in CR and the rainy season runs from mid-June until mid-December. Tomorrow I will get the rear soft window installed and hopefully, my doors will be here in the next 4 weeks, in the meantime, I can do the belt, sliders and a handful of other things before the doors get here. The Mrs will love it when I'm done, I only hope that she will let me drive it some of the time.

Well sense you use it as a second car too these additions will make it much nicer for that.
