CF cforce 1000 died while driving
« on: May 22, 2022, 10:55:16 AM »
Greetings!
My 2021  Cforce 1000 with 2800 km on the clock just died on the road while driving.
After quick examination while it was still hot (on the side of the road) I noticed that the fuel pump doesn't make a sound when turning the key.
Relay worked, fuel pump fuse still intact.
So I waited 15 min and tried again, it started but then it died again after a few seconds.
Called a tow truck and went home.
And  now that it is cold, it works again.
Has anyone any idea what it might went wrong or where to look for a solution?

Some people suggested it might be the evap system that is making all the fuss. I will try to keep the thread updated.

It's very possible...as well as some found missing heat shields that caused vapor-locking...which is hard to do with the pressures of EFI but I guess it is possible.

my 21 800xc  do this when its hot out  too vapor-lock unscrewed the gas cap let it vent a few minutes   then you be fine

Ok now at 3000km it happened again, died while riding, no errors or any changes on the display whatsoever, temperature still good two bars,  just died.  After quick examination on the spot I found out the relay for the fuel pump doesn't click. Swapped the relay same story.  So something perhaps the ECU is telling the fuel pump to stop working, and something-a sensor perhaps  is telling the ecu to do that, or the ecu has a bug in it and can't be fixed?

I do not understand how can a vapor-lock stop the pump.

It can't..unless the pump is pulling-in the vapor. Then like air, the pump can't build the pressure needed and not pump the liquid fuel to the injectors. Fuel in the tank can be hot enough to be at the boiling point and all it takes is to be subjected to some fast motion such as being sucked-into a fuel pump to cause it to turn to vapor. However, most often the fuel in the line between the pump and injectors reaches it's vaporizing or "boiling" point causing a vapor charge to exist. The injectors still pulse as usual but not spraying liquid fuel, but a gas or vapor which when mixed with the incoming air, just isn't enough fuel charge for the engine to run on. On an EFI machine where the fuel pressure is above 40psi, this "boiling" is tougher to have happen then in the old days of carburetors where the fuel pressure was usually less then 6psi. But enough raw heat on that line can do it. For CFM most find they left some heat shielding or wrap off at the factory. Other times people just add some and it's corrected. The gas tank is also supposed to be shielded on the engine and exhaust side so you will want to look for that as well.

It is me again I am back with the solved problem.
It was the fuel pump. Thank the sun that it finally died a week ago, so it was a breeze to diagnose.
If I may think out loud as to why this happened.
Is it possible that the relief valve did not work so there was no flow of the gasoline through the pump to cool it at low rpm engine speeds so it overheated and started melting?
Or was the rotor perhaps rubbing against the magnets?
Or a defect in the plastic rotor maybe?

Here are some pictures of the motor and it's insides.

Looks to have gotten hot so...anything's possible. Glad it didn't send any sparks or too much heat. Anything electric in tanks always scare me..just my age showing I guess. They have been doing it for 30 years now. Sending units before that.

Wow! Never seen anything like that before.

Indeed thank god it did not cough on fire.
I didn't even bother with warranty, since I thinkered with my atv from day one+doing my own oils/filter and valves when needed.
