My manual says 5w40, 10w40 or 15w40 but no mention of spec. I looked at older manuals of cfmoto 4 wheelers and they listed API SL as the required spec. I was in a store today and they had Lucas 10w40 ATV oil for a reasonable price. The bottle said it only meets API SG and JASO MA. I'm thinking the more I see on oils I'd be better off just getting Valvoline ATV 10w40 at walmart for $4.50 a quart. At least it meets all of the current specs.

Howdy
The main thing is if your machine is a wet clutch machine then JASO rating is required.
