« on: November 25, 2019, 12:21:26 PM »
I am sure I am not alone here , but battery died and had to boost on the weekend
is there an easier way to boost the battery  or has anyone installed  extra leads to make boosting easier ?

Although there are remote lead kits you can buy...and some have installed them to be under the driver's seat , I always thought if I eve needed to jump it I would just use the positive side of the starter solenoid and any point on the engine case as a ground. Because of the amperage demand of the starter I wouldn't use the frame as it only has a #12 or 10g wire between the engine and chassis and that's not enough...it will get toasted. That's why the battery's main ground cable goes to the engine case.

This is my solution and was easy to do:

That is a slick setup for boosting!  Never would've thought of that.  I've only had to boost mine once after sitting on the trail too long with the motor off but the lights on and it was a PITA on not only my Zforce, but even more so hooking up to the battery on my buddy's Teryx4.  It's in a worse spot than ours.

As far as just charging the battery, I built an overhead stereo box (wired direct to the battery with a fuse) to which I added dual USB ports and a 12V plug.  I threw a 12v male plug with a decent length of wire on it in my dash and when I need to charge it up I just plug that into the 12v outlet and connect my charger clamps to the end of the wires.  Works great and saves me having to get to the battery.  No good for boosting though.  I have two batteries for it now but haven't hooked the second one up yet and when I do I might add remote boosting lugs of some type, maybe like what you've done.

I removed the small factory style battery, enlarged the battery box, built a new tray and installed a car battery....never have a low battery issue since. For easier boosting to another bike I installed one longer positive cable and attached it to the rear plastic window, which acts as an insulator, to a 1 inch long stud and nut to act as a terminal. It has a removable rubber boot when not in use for boosting. The negative terminal is just the bolt for the seat belt harness so they are in close proximity for cables, about 8" apart. Will always keep the larger battery charged during idle or driving from the factory regulator and stator.
