Air filter issues
« on: June 20, 2019, 02:20:47 AM »
The only way to reduce dust to the air filter box.
800EX fitted with S&B filters partical filter, this unit is designed for the YXZ,
Fits perfectly you just have to make your own hose adapters to the air box.
By having the intake hose going in through the front between the seats means the cargo area can still take a spare wheel,  may look a bit neater going in from the back but may cause problems if you a spare wheel or storage box.
I think the main hose looks a little too big may look for a smaller diameter and reduce things down a bit.

Hi  That looks great I just installed the same exact system on my 800 trail but I went in from the back, does take up a little room but decided that the hose was 3.5" and didn't want it in my way in the front. Question have you taken it out and tested it in dust yet? I am possibly going next week to a really dusty area in Idaho should prove if the system does what I hope for.  I know that NMK is going to install one.

Is it noisy? Just wondering what the impact is of having it right next to your head.

Love those seats!

I am running this on a Z1000. On a 60 mile loop of trail, a new stock filter would gain 6 grams of particulate weight. After going to the particle separator, my gram scale won't even register any difference in filter weight after the same 60 mile loop. Essentially no particulate has reached the filter.

Was the roll cage drop necessary for the length of the mounting clamps, besides making the Moto look better ? Here in NC we have tons of dust and this is definitely coming my way !

To answer the question of how load they are they have an exhaust fan built in which does make some noise here is a link to the spec.

As for the clamps role cage question the best I can do is give the links to S&B  I myself installed the same exact unit as pictured on this post and it fit with out any mods. to the roll cage,  in fact I used the there inch extensions to raise my unit up. I have a post in the Z800 with pictures under "air intake".

check these links. Then open install instructions or the video. Hope this helps.

Just a comparison video I found, I'm also thinking of this strongly!

Regarding noise from the partical separator, its only the fan running that you notice when stationary.
The amount of racket that these things make when moving, ie engine, transmission, tyres etc,
its hardly an issue, its your engine that you are trying to preserve not you ears. LOL.

As for the roll cage mods, if you look closely at the pictures you can see that it has been lowered 120mm
NOT raised thats why the plastic roof is so close to the separator, the mounting brackets and clamps etc
are the ones supplied in the YXZ kit, all fits perfectly as so does the wiring loom also supplied in the kit.

I picked up a used Yamaha one with center bottom output. Anyone have the details on how to connect to either the inside between seats or through the bed above the air cleaner? I run with a winter encloser and will have to mount S&B up high above the roll cage. Thanks

As I went through considerable cost to port mine through the bed on either side for my stacks. I plan on connecting the two with 3" 90s and a sweeping 3.5" to 3" "T" in the center so the intake can just peak over the top edge...kinda like this.

From this:

To this..kinda:

This video has some info on what I did to get it ported to the bed. I have sense lowered them a lot so..

You want to try mine for awhile to see if it works better? This is on my project list, but I'm in no hurry since we can't/shouldn't go very far. Up to you but better than $400 and not like it. Just let me know. I just finished cleaning it up from previous owner in NE heights. I'm at Unser and I-40, Northwest corner. Bill

Thanks. I'm closer to Louisiana and San Antonio. However from what I have heard from everyone that has done it, I am going to like it...a lot..and If I go to all the trouble of installing one I will want to leave it alone. One thing that I have to work on is finding the sweeping "T" for less then 90-bucks. It shouldn't be over 30 bucks but for some reason it's hard to find and those that have it want a fortune for it. This thing costs 4-times what any other silicone fitting on the market:

NMK - Just a quick question.  You have a few "add-ons" that require power to operate.  Do you run a second battery?
