A few service questions
« on: February 26, 2023, 05:26:05 PM »
21 600 Touring. 430 miles. I'm approaching the 1 year mark since I did the break-in maintenance. Will be doing a spring service in the next few weeks to hopefully get me through another year of riding.

Air Filter - I have a new OEM air filter that I will install. Does it need to be oiled or is it ready to install right out of the bag?

Oil filter - last time I used a HiFlo 152. Are these filters still ok or is there a better option out there?

Oils - last time I used 75w-90 on the front and rear diffs for some reason. I don't remember if that was intentional or a mistake. The manual calls for 80w-90. Does it make much of a difference? Is it too early to switch to full synthetic from conventional?

Front bumper replacement - picking up a new OEM front bumper tomorrow since I bent my last one with my winch/ plow. Can anyone help me with torque specs on the circled M8 bolts in attached schematics?

1. If it is the paper filter with the foam prefilter, no oil, use as is but know that we recommend going to the Unifilter with a quality foam filter oil. If it is the blue OE foam filter, always assume it must be oiled.
2. The HiFlo 152 or the K&N 152 is ok however there are some differences between the 152s and the OE CFM filter that makes me stay with the CFM filter.
3. Either is fine and you can change to full synthetic there and engine at any time now.
4. Any CFM manual will have specs on the maximum torque values of any size bolt. Just guessing but an 8mm standard Chinese bolt will have something less then 25ftlbs. I will look it up for you and post my findings.

FINDINGS: M8=8mm shafted bolts x 125. Shows 20Nm which is 14.75 ftlbs. Probably safe to take it to 15 or 16.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful. The air filter that i have is black. I don't know if there's paper underneath it as it's still sealed in the bag but it's definitely not blue.

That will be the paper one...the one that been killing engines in dusty condition in under 1100 miles because most of them are letting 20 microns and smaller dust get by. Some have even had the end metal caps fall right off.  Probably looks something like this:

Since we have this service question thread going, iv'e a few questions also.
I'm going to be doing a few things on my 2018 z force and need to gain some know how.
When i grease my wheel bearings what are the tourqe settings for the Hub
and calipers?
This machine i bought last year 2022 from an older couple who took great care of it.When i cleaned my air filter i noticed it was a K & N .It had a outer ware then 2 filters on the filter it self.I cleaned all 3 sprayed them with filter oil.Should i not have sprayed the outerware?

Really should get rid of all the BS filter and just go with a Unifilter with a quality foam filter oil and nothing else. And which 2018 ZForce do you have?, the 500 or 800 or the 1000? I have the service manual for the 14-17 which will give you all the specs for the chassis for the 500s and 800 and I think I have a full service manual for the 18/19 1000s. Adding it to your signature line is a big help. :)

You said you had service manulas.the 2017 you have would my 2018 be close to whats in it.If so how do i get a service manual. The air cleaner i have is the uni filter ,like i said it has 2 pieces of styrofoam that go over the houseing on the air cleaner.I know you've seen them.

I'll PM you a link to the 14-17 manual. They are 99% the same are the 18+s. Unifilters are a two stage foam filter with the courser of the two on the outside. People put Outerwears prefilters over them but even clean they are slightly restrictive and once they get sucked-down against the oiled filter and get some on it, they start picking up the little stiff they aren't supposed to and start choking the engine down. Bad for rings and other things. Better not to use them at all.. but if you must, put it on the airbox intake well away from the filter and have it large enough so as not to get plugged up too fast. The older ones...and maybe yours..came with one over the intake that's behind that grill/cover between the seats....and people forgot about it or didn't know it was there...many got plugged up. When I had my stack intakes, and had to ride in real dusty conditions, I had these round "Bonnet" Outerwear prefilters I put over the intakes. Always made my wife laugh.

it for me,My printer took a dump.
