800 Terralander - mad knocking sound
« on: April 16, 2020, 05:48:41 AM »
I have this disturbing knocking sound coming from the right side of the engine when firing it up.
It only occurs when reving up from idle, else its quiet. Also, as soon as it gets warm, the sound completely goes away.
However its getting worse from time to time, i feel like the engine is gna fail on me some day soon.

What i've replaced so far regarding the drivetrain:
1. Outer bearing for the primary shaft
2. Inner bearing for the primary shaft
3. One way bearing for the clutch
4. Rollers in the primary
5. Sliders in the primary
6. Outer disc along with new bearings for the primary

Yesterday i took the clutch apart and gave it a good inspection, but i didnt find anything wrong.
I've also gone through the exhaust system incase something was loose, found nothing..
What do you all think?

Sounds like something hitting the case. Any marks on inside?

I think I answered this question on facebook. Most all with wet clutches do this to some degree. Mine included although a little less with the sliders. If you put it in a gear it either changes or stops and when warmes-up it also stops..or about stops so it has to be a combination of the dry wet clutch shoes and the primary's rollers/sliders rattling-around against the cam plate. Yeah..I thought it was a rod too...but after five years it should have thrown by now...hasn't. I did a recording of mine a while back for someone. I'll see if I still have it and post it.

One thing I do know also is that with the rollers, not all roll or slide the same and some will get flat spots on the faces. That means some will be loose under the cam plate where others will not as they hold it partly open. Those loose ones will do a lot more "moving around" then the ones held in place. Pull the primary, clean it all up and inspect all the rollers. Replace with 24-25gram Dr. Pulley sliders. You won't regret it.

Found that video. I deleted it so I had to re-upload it.

Mine has sounded that way from when it was new and nothing has blown up, yet.  Great videos you two.  Thanks.
