I'm curious/confused about tire sizes on the 2023 Gen 2 Trail 800.  Mine has 26x8xR14/26x9xR14 front/rear that came when I bought it.  The maintenance manual also shows these are the "correct" sizes.

BUT if I check the CFMoto web pages for specifications, some pages show 26x9xR14/26x11xR14 front/rear while other pages and many dealer sites, which appear to copy some of the CFMoto web pages, call for the 26x8xR14/26x9xR14.

Even more confusing, specs on the 2024 version indicate they come with 26x8xR14/26x9xR14, and the Gen1 specs (2022) indicate they used 26x9xR14/26x11xR14s.

When looking for replacement tires it appears that 26x8xR14s are pretty rare with very few options. I assume the only real difference is tire widths.  So my questions:  Are the two different sets of specs basically interchangeable, i.e. can I replace the originals with the wider ones?  If so are there any other changes I'd have to make, like rims?  I assume I wouldn't have to make any gearing changes as both sets are 26", is that correct?  Anything else I should consider here?

I have never heard of having only a 1" difference between the front and rear. They should be either square...as in the same width or the rears are up to 3"s wider as in 9s and 11s...as it was with all prior. The real limiting factor will be the wheel/rim width as you must have at least 1" wider tire then wheel but not more then 3"s wider....and you can not put the same width tires on different width wheels and have the same outside diameter. Pull one front and one rear wheel and look to the back side on the spokes (likely) for the wheel width and offset in millimeters. You can go up to two sizes larger in diameter or height without mandatory clutch work and that may only be a re-clock. Some re-tune on the rollers/flyweights may be desirable but not necessary. Post pics of the tire sizes and what you find on the back side of the wheels for future inquiries. IF..all the wheels are the same width...as in all a 7", then I would go square...and go with a 27x10 all the way around. 20x9 would also ne a good option...and a little lighter. 

Thanks for the info!  I pulled both front and rear wheels.  There appear to be only two sets of numbers that might be of interest, the CFMoto Part Number and something else that looks to be wheel size related.

The Front Wheel Part number is 5BWV-070100-5100, and the other info shows 14x6.0ATET+46.5

The Rear Wheel Part Number is 5BWV-110100-5100, and the other info shows 14x7.0ATET+46.5

As I wrote, the 8" fronts and 9" rears are what came on the unit from the dealer. The tread patterns are the same and these are the sizes called out in the Service Manual.  So I don't think the dealer did any kind of a swap, and some of the CFMoto spec web pages agree with these size specs.

The 6.0ATET and 7.0ATET appear to match the rim widths when I measured them.  If that's the case then I assume from your post I could go up to 26x9xR14 front but no wider than 26x10xR14 rear which seems to conflict with what some CFMoto Spec Web pages are saying - they're indicating 26x11xR14s in the rear.  As far as I can tell from my research by part number, the same part numbers are used on all the Gen2 Trail 800's.

Well...as there is only an inch difference and the offsets are the same, it would be OK...IMO..to put the same size tire on both rims. Pick a 9 or a 10". Should be OK. You can...if you want..go with a 9 on front and a 10 on back. It's up to you.

I replaced the tires on my 2023 Trail Gen 2 with tires from Rocky Mountain ATV with the Tusk Terrabite   (26x9-14 / 26x11-14). Checked with local tire dealers and they said no problem.  Really like them.

Thanks very much for this!  Those are exactly the same tires and sizes I've been looking at for my Gen 2.  The sizes do match some of the spec sheets CFMoto has published, but are contrary to what came on my UTV and what the Service Manual says which is why I posted my questions.  Was also a bit concerned that the 11" on the rear appear to be 1" wider than what really knowledgeable people like NMKawierider  have said, so it's good to hear from someone who has done this on the same Gen 2 and is happy with the results.

Just for clarity, my rears are an 8" wide wheel and mine came with 11" wide tires on the rear. My fronts are 7" and have a 9" wide tire there. People do put 11" wide tires on 7" wheels but know it will pooch a little and crown with about 1/4" larger in diameter. Not a problem much on dirt and soft stuff in 4wd but I would not be in 4wd on pavement or hard pack. Heck I once put 12" wide tires on a 7" wheel. Won't do that again...lol

The only problem is most of the 50" only trails here have "gates" on them that restrict the width. Now CFmoto says this is a 50" machine is misleading, the actual overall width is 54 1/2"  and you are not going to get through the gates without removing your fenders.  Which I did "once", could have left them off but then the tires stick beyond the fenders and you know what happens when you hit some mud. So I said the heck to it and put of 1 1/2" spacers and the 9" and 11" wide tires.  Yeah, it keeps me off most of the 50" only trails, but I'm ok with that now.  Trail condition out here since the last two winter run-offs have  really damaged a lot of the trails enough to make them a challenge.  The Park and Recreation trail cat crews are working to fix them but they can only do so much at a time.

Interesting.  I measured the width between the fenders in a couple of places on my Gen 2 and I came up with about 51".  The widest is between the side mirrors at 58" but they swing out of the way.  I've never had any issues going on trails with the 50" gates so far although it was a bit tight.  Anyway, it doesn't seem like I'd be going wider than 50" at the wheel if it go with the 9"/11" tires, but sometimes the best laid plans just don't always work out.

Now that I think about it I seem to recall that the Gen1 was a bit wider than the Gen2 and people complained about not being able to get thru the 50" gates without removing some of the plastic.

It was a bit of a toss-up for me between the Terrabites and the Pro Armor Dual Threat.  The Terrabites are 8 ply and the Pro Armor are 10 ply but 3 ply sidewalls.  (Couldn't find anything definitive on the number of sidewall plys in the Terrabites, but some said they thought they use 8 ply there too.) Both got good reviews and almost nothing negative said about either. The Pros were about $10 more per tire, but in the end the larger number of positive reviews on the Tusks made the decision for me. Plus, not that it matters to me, the Tusks are DOT rated and the Pros aren't.
