Can the zforce 800 but put into 4x4 high while on the fly? Dealership guy said needed to be stopped before putting into 4x4.. even high range.. seems odd to me

The unit can be shifted into 4wd while moving however it must be below 10mph and costing..which means no power on or off of the accelerator..a neutral state.. and not turning in any direction. When completed in either direction..either shifting it in or out, you would be wise to ensure the coupler is completely seated by "tickling" the throttle once..which means just a slight on then off motion to ensure that a true neutral state was presented while shifting before applying full power again.

For the transmission to shift from high to low or visa-versa, you MUST always stop completely as there are no synchros and no way to stop the application of forces to the gears while in motion...even manually well enough not to damage or break either the gear dogs or shifter fork assembly. Just the way it is.

Yes, mine was too. Think of it that way. Except when locking the diff the Brute has the lever and friction disks so it doesn't matter when it gets pulled but on these the coupler just slides a bit farther to lock both axles together so its real important they not be turning at different speeds so for sure be going straight when that gets locked-in...and after bump the steering wheel just a little back and forth to ensure it's all the way in. That coupler has a bad habit of jumping back and taking out the plastic gears on the slider..or bending the fork. That's the #1 reason for that to happen...people are shifting on the fly and not ensuring it's completely seated before giving it hell.
