What's the vent between the seats for? I have assumed for cold air intake but seems like more heat coming out. if it is air intake, if I relocate with a snorkel kit can I cover it with no issues or with other stuff start overheating?

Yes. If you take the cover off you will see the engine intake tube...as well as the engine and everything else that throws heat and dirt off the tires right into that area. You can seal the grill off with some sound deadening heat shield as I did after relocating the intake.

We've all put them in different places throughout the years but the funny thing is...those that built a box behind it to seal it off from the back side and force it to get air only from the inside of the cab through the grill...has had the best luck with minimum alterations or cost. Hell one guy make one out of a pizza box and duct tape. I found that nowhere out back or at any height was super-great for getting out of the dust-zone but those that did either what I said above or made it get air from inside the cab not only cut the heat intake but cut the dust/dirt intake by 70+% over where it is now.
