2015 CForce 500
« on: February 03, 2021, 03:56:58 PM »
Hi Everybody,
I'm having an issue with my 2015 CForce 500 ATV. I'm in PA and I only use it for plowing snow on my property. The other day I heard a relatively loud bang when I was backing up. It sounded like it came from the front. I cant see anything broken but the noise is still there when I go in reverse. I pulled the right side case off (the side with the belt) and don't see anything wrong. I called the dealer and they said to check the clutch. According to them the clutch is on the left side. Everything I see online says the clutch is on the right. Which is correct? I don't want to pull any more apart than I have to.  The dealer I bought it from is over 2 hours away, so I don't want to make the trip unless I have to.
Also if anybody has any ideas of what the banging noise could be let me know and I'll check it out.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Welcome. Sounds like that are usually associated with drive train components such as CV joints, U-joints, Pinion bearings, wheel bearings...ect. There is always a possibility of one of the clutches being loose or something with the transmission or even some failed a-arm bushings but start from the outside and work in...and from the front checking for looseness in things that shouldn't have any.

The clutch doesn't care what gear is selected. That looks like a red hearing.

Can you describe the steps that reproduce the noise? Does it bang if you shift it into reverse, hold the brakes on tight, and give it a little throttle?

I suspect that you'll need to inspect  suspension and driveline components.

I was pushing snow, when I backed up it made a bang. Sounded like a universal or CV joint but they look good. I'm wondering if one of the splines could have failed. It did it several times, that's why I'm looking into it. No banging when it goes into gear. I have it up on blocks now and everything looks good. I'm going to drain the front diff and see if there are any chips in there. It only has 50 miles on it so I am definitely going to fix it or take it to somebody who can. I'll start with the diff oil then go from there. If I find anything I'll post it. Thanks for the help.

50 miles on a 2015? How does that happen?

So if I understand correctly, it does not bang when you shift from forward to reverse with the brake on, but it bangs after you hit the gas.

Will it bang with the brake on and giving it gas?

Does it bang before the machine starts to move, or after it has moved some distance?

I would look for a loose fastener, perhaps to the diff, but also to the control arms.

Yeah it's a creampuff. Thats what Im doing. I drained the differential oil looking for metal but that looks good. Now Im just checking the fasteners to make sure nothing worked loose. I dont want to take the left hand case cover off but I will if I have to.
Thanks again for the pointers

I'm still not understanding exactly what the steps are to reproduce the bang.

I'm still not understanding exactly what the steps are to reproduce the bang.

I’ll try to explain what it’s doing. When I try to back away from a snow pile I hit the gas, it moves, sometimes a couple of feet then let’s put a banging noise as if something broke. I didn’t try it while holding the brake but I will when I get it together.

We need to establish when it does it and when it doesn't so do the same thing in and out of 4WD. Then in whatever it does it, turning the wheels -V- straight. Then when it does it, ease back into that show bank and apply power to see if it does it turning the drive train the other way. Report back when done with the results.
