2007 250 - V5 won't run
« on: August 07, 2017, 09:02:56 AM »
can't get this thing to keep running ... have heard it run by spraying starter fluid into an opening on left under tank, also tried pouring gas into (replaced ) fuel filter, it started right up and ran for about 2 seconds ... i have replaced the fuel [pet]cock also ... bike has VERY low miles on it ... wondering if this thing may actually be fuel-injected ... thinking of taking the hose off that leaves the filter, at the end that goes into engine and try spraying something in there ... trying to keep from turning this thing over to the shop ... i figure this is either something VERY simple, or, VERY expensive to correct ... i haven't had this thing long enough to form an opiion, but so far, i'm NOT impressed ... for one thing TOOO Many Damn SCREWS 8) ... any one in here know if this is a common problem with these, or did i buy a lemon after all?? ...

thanks for reading this ...

I have no idea what machine you have. You are having a fuel issue if it will fire by spraying flammable into the intake. If it is fuel injected there would be an electric fuel pump that would have to turn on to pressurize the system. If it has a carb I suspect the carb needs to be removed and cleaned. That is always my first step on buying a used machine it is pretty easy and cheap you just have to pay attention and clean out all orifices and be sure you put thing back the way they came out.

Eeay to see if it's EFI. See if you have a carb. I haven't messed with exact model so i will just be general. check the valve gap. Yes they will run a bit on carb cleaner or the like but if the gap is off, it won't start or run good. If this is like some others I have worked on, the gap is pretty small and with not a lot of miles the valves might have just broken it and are due for an adjustment. I have done battle with some of carbs they put on these size bikes. In the end I found it cheap and easy to just replace them. If you post a pic of it, I might be able to ID it.

Being an 2007 model I am sure it would have a carb, and it sounds like it needs a good cleaning.
On line manual will help.

I have a 2014 (fuel injected) and a 2011 (carburettor) and can help with most questions.

Also check that the vacuum tap is working and the lines going to the manifold are connected and not leaking.
