2 Questions newbie to 800 Trail
« on: December 11, 2019, 02:29:46 PM »
I have a water droplet flashing above my gas gauge. It comes and goes the units brand new under 50klm.
Should I be worried? Manual says its the oil pressure indicator.

Also during the maiden trip my Zforce 800 Trail was put in neutral and hand braked. I got out and checked everything to make sure things were still were where they were suppose to be. I got back in and shifted to H from neutral. I applied gas and went about 7 feet and then no power and the nastiest rocks in metal sound came from the machine like metal breaking into pieces. I got out and looked around nothing weird. I then put it back into H from neutral and haven't had issues since. Drives fine now.

Did it slip outa H into neutral possibly?
How much dmg could that do?
Would it be a shifter cable adjustment?

If it is the oil pressure light then it should be taken in and checked right away. The shifter is on an adjustable rod and may need adjustment...many come from the factory in need of this. Coming out of gear under load can damage the shifter fork(s) so this also is something you will want checked. You would think all this stuff would be caught at the dealer on prep but never is...along with checking all the suspension and component bolts for proper torque. Most have something loose somewhere...and check for missing cotter pins on the ball joints and tie rod ends....another thing that gets overlooked.

Yeah that's oil pressure warning all right. There have been lots of bad pressure switches of late. Need to get it in though to be sure that's all it is.

Let’s not jump to fast. Have you checked your oil?

Yes I checked my oil its bang on full.

I called dealer and they said all their machines flash the oil pressure warning light at -10C to -15C or 14F to 5F all the time. Don't worry they said. It has the shipped oil in it.

Also dealer said that's its 12hrs to 14hrs to check if dmg was done when it popped outa H and grinded the gears to shit. Said they wont check unless it happens more often or is reproduceable.

If it's that cold, that's reasonable.

I don't think shifter fork damage is likely from popping out of gear without a hand on the shifter, more often such damage occurs from shoving it too vigorously INTO a gear. learning to shift the CF Moto Z force quietly in a reliable way, is a skill that comes with time. Just like driving a big rig, you learn what it wants and you get good at it. :) I'd ride it.

Do you still have the issue of popping out of gear? Mine is a 2017 800, and it does it intermittently. It was doing it consistently about a month ago, in high, going down a slight decline hill(one where you are not really using any throttle, more just coasting). Then when it did that, I needed to stop completely and re engage.

Problem is..many came from the factory mis-adjusted. Dealers didn't check them. So they were not completely seated in several gear positions. Under load this forced the two gears apart and one against the shifter fork. This bends that fork so it never seats the gear and dogs completely again even after the correct adjustments are made. It also rounds-off the dogs of that gear so they will have like ramps making them ever more easy to part ways. So...assuming it may not be too late for yours, better get that linkage adjusted. If it still come out double check the motor mount bolts and the rubbers...they too are known to break out and let the engine tip back and forth under power or decell making it jump out of gear. If all is tight, right and adjusted so both the detents on the shifter are the same as the ones in the transmission....and it still jumps out of gear. Sorry, that fork and probably that gear will have to be replaced. If you are carful and understand it's dangerious to the transmission if the shifter gets shifted while moving you can try this: Loosen the lock nut under the shifter handle and screw the handle down..clockwise..a couple of turns. This will push the release rod down and away from the shifter detents rendering it UNLOCKED. Now all there is- is the one in the transmission. Take it for a ride but make DAMN-SURE nothing and no one bumps that shifter while moving. See if it still pops out of gear. If not...you just got lucky.

Great, thanks for the info. Mine was the one that after less than 5 miles the spragg clutch went on it, I believe you may have commented on it a few years back when I first inquired about it. You have very useful videos, thanks!
