Warning light - no 4wd
« on: September 18, 2016, 10:29:00 PM »
I bought a 2014 Cforce 800 in March of this year and have put with 225 miles on it. I am under warranty....but I am wondering what happened.

Today I noticed the red warning light SLOWLY coming on and wondered what was going on. Machine runs fine but noticed the when pushing the 4wd button, no actuater noise was heared. Same with diff lock. I checked the 10 amp fuse and it was blown. I replaced it, started the machine, pushed the 4wd button and smoke/burnt smell came up from under the 4wd relay! I quickly shut it off. Also the dash display did not indicate 4wd or the diff locked.

Some history...rode yesterday and did not notice warning light. Never needed 4wd... And was a fun ride with no issues. About 35 miles.
I pressure washed the machine right before noticing the problem. Could something have gotten wet that wasn't supposed to? I am letting it dry and will try it again in the morning.

I have searched here and the most common answer is to check to see if the actuater is working. Where is this mounted? Should I just let the dealer who is 3 hours away do it?

May be water intrusion on some connector. If so, you will be waiting a long time for it to dry so might start looking and drying as you go.

The actuator is on the front diff. It's black and you can't miss it.  The conector should be easy to get to. You might have gotten water in something but my suggestion would be bringing it in. 3 hours of driving sucks, but you could spend that time digging around and still have to bring it in. No warranty, different story.

Well I didn't even look into the problem further...I just made an appointment to bring it in on Monday morning. I can keep you posted if anyone is interested.

Thank everyone for your replies!

Well after driving 3 hours, the dealer had it fixed in under 3 minutes! I told him the fuse blew and what relay melted and he grabbed a new relay and fuse and put them in. He started the machine as we both looked for smoke or the small flash of a blowing fuse. Instead we were greeted to....a working 4X4!

So while I was there, I asked him about the CVT vent tube...I wanted to do something so water would be less likely to get in. He said unless you get in really deep water, that usually isn't the problem. But was a known issue was draining the case if water got in. He showed me something he came up with....basically a fitting that goes in where the drain bolt goes, followed by a 12 inch tube with a threaded stopper on the end. He said he has a few in the field and getting rave reviews. So for 26 bucks, I had him install one.

Next thing I am looking for is a bracket for the left handle bar so I can install a factory mirror. I have one on the right and use it often...

Awesome news that it was just a relay and the issue is resolved.

Can you take a picture of this?

My 2014 has a factory spot for a mirror on both sides. The left one is built into the brake handle. It may have a black plug in it.
