Upgrading EPS to Cforce 800 with tracks
« on: January 02, 2018, 02:07:50 AM »
Hi guys!

I'm new on the board.
My name's Berni, 33 years from Bavaria, Germany.
Please allow me a question. I'm searching the internet for many days but without any success.

I have a 2014 Cforce 800 with Camoplast tracks. Since steering is really hard in low speeds (snow plowing) I'm thinking of upgrading an EPS.

Will the original EPS be fine with the tracks regarding power?
May there be any issues maybe with the generator?

Thanks in advance!

Berni

Welcome Berni to the forum. I'm not 100% sure with the CForces but with the ZForces there are several differences between the EPS and non EPS units such as a 500-watt stator over a 350-watt for the non EPS, wiring harness, ECM, some steering parts and of course the control module. For the Zs it is expensive to convert one to have the EPS but several have taken the generic SuperATV PD kit and adapted it without having to change the stator or harness. This may also be an option for the Cs but will require some fabrication for the steering and mounts.

Thanks a lot for your reply! There is a kit which provides any needed part for about 700€. The problem is, I know the EPS version has a more powerful generator. The question is, is it just for safety reasons or is it really necessary, even without any further device e.g. additional lights...

Well, the stock EPS will draw an extra about 20+ amps so..yes, the larger stator is necessary. The super ATV pulls 14-about 16 amps so it can get away with the stock stator...for a while..especially on trail rides. But if you are plowing, that usually means your RPMs are down and steering usage is way up so..you may find even it will deplete the battery in a short time....like using the wench too much.

Ok, sounds legit - thanks a lot for your help! So I'll go with manual steering ;-)

What about trading to an EPS model? I cannot even imagine steering tracks with manual steering.

EPS does much more than provide assistance, it minimizes the kick back when you hit something. The factory EPS is also speed sensitive, I want to say RPM as well.
ZF 800 LX Trail, stock for now.......not for long.

I agree wholeheartedly. From my personal experience over the years with me working to modify a machine I already own and make it into what I want, when the platform is already available and already engineered to be what it is.

An example is so often seen when people buy the 500 version of a quad and then spend a couple grand trying to soup it up, spending more than the difference they'd have paid for the 750 version!

Not to downplay the sense of accomplishment you get from making your machine into what you want or the great experience that comes with being intimate with your ORV's insides but looking at it more coldly after years of experience I'd have saved myself a lot of time and work by just detatching myself from the machine I have and getting the machine I want.  8)
