820LE oneway bearing
« on: June 06, 2018, 02:23:52 AM »
Over here in Sweden CF-moto sells the 820LE the V-Twin I guess same motor as 800. Mine has major problems, first electrical problem with the gas pump..blow fuses. That fixed!
Then after a few ...150km the oneway bearing on  the centrifugal clutch Went bad, they put a new one in and it failed right away.
Dealer wants to take it away and run without bearing...means no Engine brake...is that wise??  But why does it fail??
Love the machine ..when it runs!!
Any experiants from you guys??

Removing the clutch one way bearing is wrong, correcting the problem is the right thing to do.

Failing that quickly should be an obvious problem such as the surfaces the clutch is running on. There is a bearing in the outer clutch housing cover that may cause grief to the clutch if there is a problem with that.

If the new replacement clutch was installed backwards it would have an immediate problem of not releasing, how long did the replacement one way bearing last?

If you can post pictures of the original failure maybe we can you some idea's of the problem.

Like ctdls says, there isn't much to the oneway sprag and for one to fail..well there are only a couple of reasons. Contact point alignment is the #1 reason. This is usually because one or both of the shaft's bearings have play and it is common for the cover bearing to fail as they do not pre-grease them well...and that type of bearing "may" also have a problem spinning at crankshaft speeds which can be 7K+ at times...pretty high for a greased ball or roller bearing. The other reason other then being installed incorrectly is a damaged surface. Although there were some reports of the retainer parts coming apart but I think that can be attributed to an alignment issue.

I would insist the entire system be replaced..shaft, wet clutch, sprag, and both bearings..all of it...and have them repack that case bearing with high temp, high speed bearing grease.
