Rear winch
« on: July 23, 2024, 07:31:55 PM »
Finally mounted a rear winch.  I've had rear winches on all of my machines, but have drug my feet on this one.  The last time I was stuck, it would have come in handy.  Iron Baltic winch mount, $175 plus shipping (about $20 if I remember right).  Bought a cheaper Badland (Harbor Freight brand) winch to at least get something on there.  I've actually had good luck with their winches.  Would be nice if winch manufacturers would take into consideration that maybe someone is wanting to mount a winch on the rear of an ATV and make the wires long enough.  The CF Moto information plate area was the most reasonable location to be able to mount the solenoid, so that's where it's at, if it starts to give me issues I'll look at relocating it.  The winch will just be used when it has to be, this is a recreational riding machine, I don't use it for working at all. I will say that the Iron Baltic mount seems pretty bullet proof.

Does that setup bolt straight into where the hitch mount goes?

Yes, replaces the original receiver mounting, bolts right up.  The new receiver portion of the mount does extend it off the back of the machine a little further and I have noticed that the hitch I have mounted does drag on some dips / climbs.  Since I don't have a ball mounted on it I should probably just take it off, but it makes a handy spot to put the shackle for the winch hook when using a snatch block.
