No start - error code, clears and starts 24 hours later?
« on: November 22, 2020, 07:46:37 AM »
Hey guys,
Anyone out there experience a no start with error code 0337?  When I bought my cforce XC and brought it home it wouldn't even start to get it off the truck...extremely p*ssed I took it back to dealer the very next morning to have it checked, only to find when I went to start it it fired right up! Not being able to duplicate the issue they told me to take it home.  Since then I have put 850 Km's on it and the issue has presented on a couple other occasions.
Research tells me the code is "crankshaft phase sensor - no signal".  Thing is if I leave it for 24 hours it starts. Dealer still says nothing wrong?

Probably just a bad CPS so I would just show them this video and have them replace it. Won't be the first CFM CPS that's failed.

Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

Sounds like a weak connection someplace, maybe heat related, either in the wiring or the CPS itself. You can pull the CPS and test it; lots of youtube vids for that. If it tests fine go through the connections for that circuit.

Never hurts to check the grounds too, but that kind of failure usually takes out more than one circuit.

Hey guys, I never did get this issue fixed.  Just wanted to update on the shitty service and run around I'm getting.  Since the dealer I bought it from would not provide any support, I took it to another dealer.  The code and issue has been presenting more frequently now and it has left me stranded on the trails once for an hour (it finally started and I got home with it).
This dealer said they hooked it up to their scanner and pulled the code (Guess the dealer I bought it from couldn't do this  :o) they need to replace the CPS (good call NMKawierider) so they will replace it..her's the kicker, part is back ordered 2 months!!! seriously...2 months! and this dealer will only give me the bike back if I sign a waiver stating they informed me that continuing to drive it could cause damage to the motor?...I will admit I'm not to savy when it comes to mechanics but that makes no sense to me.  What about the 1370 KMs I put on it since day one? will it already have impacted the life of this motor?
What a joke, you purchase something new for reliability and peace of mind, now I'm sitting without a ride during prime riding season.  Currently fighting with both CFMoto Canada and the dealer where purchased for some sort of compensation..not getting far though. :'(
Fun times!

I thought the TPS and the idle Air control valve was incorporated within the throttle body and if you replaced it, you replaced all three at the same time. I would check with other parts houses and see about that back order. Maybe you can get it for them... The other thing I notice is that after looking-up that 0337 code, that's the Crank Position sensor and it has no signal...an common problem with older CFMs as many have found debris built-up on the tip or the unit is damaged. This will always stop it from running. If it's a bad unit it could stop sending a signal when hot then when it cools down a bit it will start again....like yours is doing. Interesting that they didn't get that code as you did. And only if the fuel mixture is changed enough to cause extra heating or flooding will the TPS effect the engine's life. If it were me, I might be tempted to sign that weaver, bring it home, buy a new CPS and ride. If it fixes it that dealer will have one on the shelf for the next guy....lol.

Might be worth bypassing the dealer ...

I assumed you had a 2020 800XC, so double check the part number (0800-014100-1000)

In stock. $10 + shipping (~$20), usually 3 or 4 days from China.

That would be a plan...accept now I can't get the bike from the dealer without signing a waiver and voiding my warranty.  CFMoto Canada says they have 5 shipping containers full of parts that have arrived at their Canadaian head office (Quebec) and the sensors are in container 5...will take them 2 weeks to go through them.  Guess I could always order the part off Ebay myself and take it to the dealer.  My luck they would say they couldn't install it cause it didn't come directly from CFmoto!

turns out with enough complaining to both the original dealer  and CFMoto Canada, they miraculously came up with the part and the bike should be fixed in 3-5 days...believe it when I see it.  Turns out you just need to scream loud enough to get results.
