Fuel consumption out of control?
« on: October 26, 2020, 11:00:27 AM »
I have a 2019 Cforce 800 XC, my buddy has a 2015 Zforce 800 and I seems to us that I burn almost 2x the amount of fuel as him. Even though he's a few hundred pounds heavier, according to specs I have a 30L gas tank and he has a 27L gas tank so it's not that.

I bypassed the emissions system because of the stalling issue, but this gas consumption concern was there before I did that, dont think it's due to that.

Anyone else experiencing very high fuel consumption with this machine? any idea whats going on?

Well..I know the ZForce has a 7.5 gallon tank. That's 28.39 liters. I see that the XC's owners manual does show a 30 liter tank but I just have never heard of an ATV having a larger tank then a UTV because of the weight and CG problems of having that up so high...yet..there it is in black and white. First I would confirm that's what it holds from stone-dry. Then I would get an accurate rate or usage. I know the 800XC doesn't get as good of mileage as the the other 800s...in fact it's hard to beat the Z. When new mine was in the 27MPG range but sense some mods, tires and clutch changes it's down to around 22mpg. Still, that's about 165 miles out of a tank. I don't even take extra gas with me anymore as most of my rides are less then 80 miles. I've heard the XC is down around the 15-18 MPG range because of the new EFI and tuning. That's a little heavy considering other makers even with larger engines are getting closer to 20 even with the 1K's. If yours is much less then that 15-18 range there must be something wrong but you need to know what the actual per-mile/Km is first. See if you can nail it down a bit closer.

I wonder if there isn't a difference in the display and its rate of progression re the respective sending unit and gauge indicators? Maybe for example half the capacity of the tank consumed reads much lower on the C force than the Z?
I know on my King Quad the gas tank is a really weird shape and the arc of the sending unit float arm makes it read an odd consumption rate. Not an even progression at all. That and my '05 and my '13 with identical parts read consumption in a much different rate from one another.

Has there been a comparison test starting with full tanks, and after a ride where significant gas has been consumed, recording how much each machine took to reach full again?
Just wondering.

Yes we thought that too at first, but it's really burning more. We went hunting this past weekend, and I used 1.5 tanks, he barely used 1. We did about the same mileage with about the same weight.

IMO you need to look at clutch tuning to keep the rpm's down a little.
