2022 800XC codes - never mind. Operator error
« on: September 21, 2024, 12:04:24 PM »
Is there a resource for checking codes?
The one Im working on now is my 2022 800XC
Ive got P0113 and P0107 on the 2022.
Two instances on each and I get the same code on the stock factory (original) ECU and my tuned ECU (again a factory unit, just tuned)..
I cleared and ran the test twice on both ECUs with the same result.
I just installed a new harness on it (this is the one that the harness fused together)
And now with a known good harness I can start sussing the other stuff out.
It's running, but not quite ready for the hills yet.

The 2023 is up and running (sheared the oil pump gear teeth)

UPDATE: so I went back out to write down the complete code response and started double checking plugs (I just installed the new harness).
And there it was . .  one FREAKING plug I had missed . . . GRRR . . .
Codes cleared on their own.

The process wasn't hard, but I took a lot of time laying the new harness in and routing it. The original was bound up in a few areas from manufacture assembly and it was difficult moving things around it.
One plug I missed hooking up.  ::).

Anyway on my 2023. I took my time on it, found the tools I needed and started tearing into it.
I found that one of the little cam followers that mounts on a standoff in the magneto area (the oil pump and water pump drive are here, too) had gotten damaged and fell through the nylon oil pump gears.

The total cost of those parts including a new gasket was under $100 and I got those in and the bikes running well again.
The beautiful thing I found is that there is a bottom sump filter in the engine case.
Except for the super fine particles all the large chunks were trapped in the sump filter.

I did my best to really take my time doing this repair and again, I really LIKE the overall engine design.
True some parts may suffer from lower manufacturing standards/metallurgy, but the overall design is really nice to work on.

I have been known to throw wrenches on occasion (nissan hardbodies do it every time) and once in awhile on my sonoma.
and those occasion when your extension snaps or your wrench slips and you slam you knuckles into steel full force but I havent YET thrown a wrench working on my 800XCs.

I've developed a lot more patience as Ive gotten grumpier but nissans deserve wrenches thrown at them and their engineers on the hardbodies deserve getting knocked out. Ive always been a "points/plugs/carb" oriented wrench but Im learning the new stuff on these bikes.

Ive done this enough times now it takes me about 1.5 hours to strip the body completely and about 2 hours to re-install it.
It's been a long time since I enjoyed wrenching on something . . or at least didn't dread it.
