So I just brought home my 19 800xc. I changed out all the fluids and did a basic full service. I took out for a short spin today and it ran great in high gear, both 2x4 and 4x4.  Got it up to 60 mph with power to spare.  In low gear however, at around 23 mph the engine stoped making power and the rpm's cycled high to low and back.  Seems to run normal at speeds below that.  I did briefly run it in low gear when I was looking at it before I bought it, but not at higher speeds. I wouldn't think it's a clutch problem because it doesn't manifest at all in high gear.  I am planning on getting a clutch kit and new belt due to basic wear and tear. Anybody have any ideas?  The machine has 100 hrs on it. Is it a tranny issue?  Thanks

It's likely you are hitting the RPM limiter..although I would have thought it would be around 7500 and around 30-35MPH in low range. See what RPMs it is when it starts doing this.

The rpm's won't exceed 5550 in low gear. In neutral the rev limiter engages at 7000, including the beeps. Didn't hear beeps at 5550 in low. Is this normal in low?  Thanks

The manual says the rev limiter should be active at 8000 rpm's.  What am I missing??

There are speed limits on reverse, speed limits when in diff-loc/4wd and as we all know, 2wd high range RPM limits. Maybe they now also limit low range. See what the RPM is when it cuts out in reverse. Probably about 5500. Running at higher RPMs in low range for extended periods is hard on things..especially the transmission. Makes a lot of heat and wears things much faster.

8K seems a little high..especially for a Chinese engine. All I know of have been between 7200 and 7750. Also, their tachometers are not the most accurate.

The new 950 have a low gear limiter 17 mph I believe
So I'd assume yours may as well
It can be over ridden

The rev limiter in low gear helps to protects the engine. Should kick in around 25mph. There is an rev limit override switch but I would advise not to use it.

My Z doesn't have a limiter in low range specifically other then the overall 7750 limiter. It did have one in reverse that the override did not control that I removed and one in 4wd only with diff-loc on..and not off that the override switch controlled...but I replaced that momentary switch with an ON/OFF switch so I wouldn't have to hold it. Does make sense to limit low range RPMs but if they do it the same way they do the others..other then the overall limiter, its just a wire removal from the ECU.
