Will the large or small cargo box fit with the rack extenders in place?

My CForce 500 will likely get used in the future for hauling ice fishing gear out on the lakes, etc.  I just ordered a pair of CF Moto rack extenders for it to make it easier to secure cargo.  There are other times I think it would be preferable to use the CF Moto cargo boxes for hauling stuff.

Does anyone know for sure if the CF Moto cargo boxes (either or both sizes) will fit with the rack extenders installed?  I probably should have checked on this before buying the second rack extender...   :-[

Thanks for any information,
Bob

Hi again desmobob,

I cannot comment on bespoke CFMOTO cargo box or the accessories as I have zero experience with them because cost and availability always tends to be limited and cost high.

On the other hand for all my cargo box requirements and other accessories I tend to fit exclusively "Moose Utility Division" kit https://www.moose-offroad.com/category/17733. Very accessible here in the UK, reasonably priced and well supported with information and modification.

For example all of my X8's have been converted to Moose combined twist and thumb throttle unit on the handlebar, expensive but very high quality kit.

I searched for images of the Gen 2 CForce 500 with the rack extender installed as well as images of the CF Moto large cargo box.  I would say it's almost certain the large cargo box will NOT fit with the rack extender in place.  Not so sure about the smaller box...

I also noticed that an "instructional" video on how to install the rack extender had it installed on top of the rack's plastic covering instead of under it, as it was intended.   ::)

I saw one video that featured the head of CF Moto's accessories development (who had a rack extender on the front rack mounted under the rack's plastic) and it showed the large cargo box hanging off the back of the machine considerably.  With a rack extender mounted, I don't think the cargo box would slide back far enough to mount properly.

No big deal.

Hi Bob,

Where there is a will there is a way.

Get out your tape measures, laser measuring devices, vernier gauge and start measuring up for own bespoke rack extender.

Then you can sell you new creation to the CFMOTO world who also require what you require from a rack extender and your bespoke cargo box.

Good Luck GMFAHFR

I sent a query to CF Moto regarding the ability to mount the cargo boxes with the rack extenders in place.  They said the boxes could be mounted with rack extenders in place.  I don't believe them...

I ended up buying a $40 Rigid brand modular tool box and mounted it to the rear rack.  I also bought another, larger, Rigid box ($50) that will fit on top of and latch to that box I mounted on my rack (I'd still add a tie-down strap for security).  Rigid offers one more even larger box and an open milk crate type box in the series.  There are other brands that offer very similar modular tool boxes that can be used the same way (Husky, DeWalt, Ryobi, Milwuakee, etc.)

The boxes are O-ring sealed for water and dust resistance and offer a metal-reinforced spot to attach a padlock and secure the contents.  I thought this was a good budget-friendly alternative to the expensive OEM boxes.  The box I mounted to the rack is fairly low profile and contains my tools, tow strap, winch gear, etc. and will remain in place..  The larger box can be easily added when more space is needed.

I also have two milk crate style boxes, one typical square crate and one longer rectangular crate, that fit very nicely together on the front rack when needed.  Combined with a hitch-hauler that I originally had for my car, I think I have solutions to my carrying needs!
