I've recently purchased a utv with the cf188 500 cc engine driving the show. Driving it home from the seller the first belt exploded and he said he'd replaced the belt last summer and barely driven it since then. So i put i on a trailer and drove it home. When i took it apart i mean literally the belt had disintegrated. After changing the belt and driving like maniac for about 2 hours the belt blew again. So is there something i'm missing? Something to look out for at the next install? I'm kinda new to this type of engine. I would like to be able to drive it without having to worry about the belt exploding.... Any ideas?

The first thing to realize is aside from slow hard crawling, the nest hardest thing on any belt is to be at full shift-out at higher speeds and maintaining that for long periods. Lots of heat...so one should have a temp gauge on it. The next thing that kills belts fast is warn sheaves and over-clocking of the secondary. I would look for any areas of either clutch that have ward flat spots like below and see where the secondary is clocked to. Really should be over C1 if used on the road. Also check the primary spring and weights..that the spring is the correct one as well as the flyweights. Wrong pressures can cause slipping and that destroys belts very quickly. Also if it has the one-way idler bearing, that it works smoothly and not seizing.
