Gearing down???
« on: January 23, 2017, 02:39:21 PM »
Hi guys.. new to site. I have a 2010 trail tracker 500(carb)
Bought it new. Been a great atv and want to keep it that way. My problem with it tho is this... the gearing! I don't see why a 500cc atv needs to got 90km on hard pack but can't spin the tires to keep moving in a mid hole because it's bogged out. Is there any change up that can be done to gear it down for better low range power? I would rather top out at 70 km per hour and be able to pull a trailer thru muddy trails on my trapline than race a ferrari and make him nervous lol. Any suggestions on what can be done? Thanks guys

You should have the older clutch set up in yours. My cfmoto clutching tread will have some info for you on roller size and general info. There is no gearing down persay. I think what your after is clutching changes. The Suzuki vinson has a very similar clutch set up and there should be plenty of info out there to Google. I have heard that the clutch kits for these fit the older cf500, but can't confirm this. The just of it is put lighter rollers in the primary clutch to move the RPM of the clutching up and increase the secondary spring pressure to quicken the backshifting. I can't tell you what to set everything at because I haven't worked on this model myself. There is an outfit in Estonia that has been doing some custom work on these on YouTube. Maybe check there too.
