Hi All,

So a couple of days ago, I decided to finally adjust the idle screw on my 500 HO.  I was having similar problems that others have complained about with the ATV driving like crap at low speeds (jumpy).  The fix worked.  I adjusted the idle screw out and brought the idle down to around 1550-1600.  This solved the jumpiness problem, but created a whole new problem.  When I turned the handle bars all the way to one side (either way) the machine would rev up.  What I discovered was that when I turned the idle screw out, it tightened up the throttle cable to the point that there was no longer enough play to allow full range of motion of the handlebars.  The fix for this was to adjust the throttle cable at the handlebars.

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I wanted to share my experience because I haven't heard anyone talk about adjusting the throttle tension after moving the idle screw out.  Very simple to do and I hope I save some folks an unnecessary trip to their dealer.

Moving the handlebars form side to side after any throttle work must be done as a safety check.  Thanks for posting.

I had same jumpy issue. Funny thing, everything I read on 'driveability issue' thread including idle speed, no idle between 1700 and 4000, a lot of turns on screw before anything happens and cable adjustment, I encountered. I was ready to ask dealer to take quad back. My wife and I were to the point we didn't want to ride it. Can't believe the difference a little idle speed made. Now we love the bike. (fingers crossed)
