Resolved, TPS adjusted, idle brought down to around 1450 and the throttle cable was catching.  Runs great!

Cool! I got to take mine in too cause it's been idling at 1700 and has started up at 3500 eight or ten times. I spoke with a factory rep and he talked like it was an easy fix. Unfortunately my nearest dealer is 100 miles one way from me.

You can get it close yourself. It thinks...well, it's telling the ECY the throttle is open farther then it is, do see which way it need to go to back that off and just do. Then lock the screw where the idle is around 1200-1400 or where ever the manual says.

If I understood your saying I need to mechanically ajust the TPS to drop the idle? Do you think it will fix the random 3500rpm startup too?

Brice at cfmoto said the service shop will need a program tool of some sort. The nearest dealer didn't have one and said they wouldn't buy one just for me. So I called the next closest dealer and he wasn't sure what I was talking about and me getting the info in a roundabout way I don't know what kind of tool I'm talking about ether. Service manager said he would call cfmoto tomorrow and figure it out.

Tho I am a little computer illiterate I'm confident if cfmoto sent me the program tool and some instructions I could figure it out.

On a related note do you know where I could get the service manual? I knew I would need one eventually but it's starting to look like I'll need it sooner than later.

Yeah just play with it a bit and see. Mark it before adjusting though. Sorry, I don't know where to get a service manual on a 500...yet :) Probably buy one from Alpha Sports though

If anyone gets a service manual for the new 500, I would love to read it. I'm nerdy like that.

Ok, so  I finally got a chance to take it into the dealer they adjusted the TPS theoretically this has fixed the problem. It sucks that the dealer closest to me refused to service my machine because I didn't buy it from them. So I took it to the dealer I bought it from 175 miles one way, 6 1/2 hour worth of driving round-trip I really hope this fixed it.

That's just totally unacceptable. That dealer needs reported to CFM.

I kinda have. Brice at CFM has contacted them. They are a new CFM dealer. But I guess they can't force them to do anything they don't want to do. It's kind of a pisser because I had a conversation with the owner of the dealership that I purchased from prior to making the purchase about this exact scenario. He insured me that any reputable dealer would not have a problem servicing a machine regardless of where it was purchased. So either he was wrong or it's not a reputable dealer.
