Cforce 500 eps failures
« on: July 28, 2018, 03:32:41 PM »
All, bought 2017 500 HO EPS, Blue from dealer in Manhiem PA one month ago. Went to ride today and unit would not start. Crancked great and zero fuel injection pump sound. Sure enough, unit woul almost run trying starting fluid. Took to dealer today. 161 miles, fuel system craps out, driving light has taken on water, rear suspension cannot handle two up, and that I have a fix for. But, for a fuel injection problem already? I had a ride planned today and Sunday, update the rear shocks and install a rear box made for two up riding......very worried and hoping that this is a fluke. I have yet to make first payment.

What do you mean the rear suspension cant handle two up?  My wife and I have put over 700 miles on our machine riding two up.  No issues.

Are you both riding 2-up machines?

My statement was directed to my 2017 500 HO EPS two up unit. The rear a-arm bushings upper and lower were too tight thus keeping the rear suspension in a squatted position. Once I get my unit back, I'm installing high lifter coils on the rear shocks. If time permits, I'll install some zeros to allow the bushings to be lubricated. Dealer confirmed fuel pump failure and is replacing.

Left VA today to get unit from B&B Powersports in PA. Both the fuel pump and crankshaft sensor failed. Both were replaced and the new fuel pump has a different PN than the 2017 parts manual has. The PN is for a 2018 fuel pump. Dealer would NOT adjust TPS even after I explained all the online communications about the low speed drivability. After I got the unit home, I checked the High lifter coils against the rear stock shocks and they will fit. So next is the rear suspension upgrade. Again, the coils are from high lifter, for the rear of a Honda TRX 300 fourtrax 4x4. They came with one shock, so I had to order two coils. Bronco makes them also. I'll have pictures of the swap next week. We are riding two up, I'm 238lbs and she is 123lbs. We carry a cooler, gas and other stuff with. We had the shocks maxed for preload but rode terrible. Hoping to back off to the lightest and test after new coils are on.

All, as I have updated everyone else, at 160 plus miles both the fuel pump and crankshaft sensor went. Both replaced by dealer. I then did the TSP screw adjustment using so old carb wrenches due to the tight location and got the rpm' down to the 1400 range. Tach is not all that accurate on these units. Along with that update, I pulled off the stock shocks and installed two shocks made for a TRX 300 4wd Honda. Gained 2 inches in lift in the rear and the ride two up is better but a little stiff due to having it adjusted too stiff. I originally pulled the stock rear shocks off and replaced the coils with high lifter coils and a home made spacer and large flat washer. They worked also but I was worried that I scored the shaft attempting to remove the top shock eyes that were put on with zero lube......rusted badly and I had to vice grip the cam to hold it in place. Used a grinder to remove the scoring and rode one time with them. I then replaced them with the cheap DTA D2002-8's rear shocks. I have yet to ride with them. Pictures to follow.

The rear DTA's I bought fit, but are way weak. Worse than the stock cf500 ho eps shocks. Keeping the re-coiled stock shocks with high-lifter coils. Tried to upload photos but no love.

No one will be able to upload any size photo to the current server. Just use Imgur for now until we get the new service...if we ever do...
