2017 500 HO coolant leak
« on: December 07, 2020, 08:58:19 PM »
I developed a small coolant leak under my oil filter area.  There is a small clear tube their with green coolant.  My coolant is still at max after 4 years.  Changing coolant out this weekend.  Any thoughts?

Seems 90% of all CFMs develop anywhere between a small seep to a full-out running leak through the water pump's mechanical seal early in life. In fairness, all manufacturers that use this type of system will have that seal fail at some point but usually it takes many many thousands of miles. Change the coolant to a name brand and ass a 1/4-cup of water pump lubricant. That will fill-in some of the imperfections between the two parts of that seal and...if small enough...will seal it again...for a while. Worked on mine.

Thanks for the feedback.  Big help.  I bought this to replace coolant this weekend.  What do you think I can add pump sealant to this?

Nope, you can't add water pump "Lubricant" to waterless coolant. And be sure to follow the instructions cause all the previous coolant and water MUST be taken out. They use a prep to do that and it must be used. Just my opinion but I would not have put that in a system with a leak. Good stuff though...maybe too good for a CFM. :)

This is the Prep fluid:

This is mainly because of the cheap chinese coolant they come filled with from the factory, not lubricating enough. I had the same issue but ended up replacing the water pump and seals on waranty. Now my local dealer replaces the coolant on all new machines with Renault Type D green one and none have came back with the water pump failure.

My local dealer does the same and no more problems.
I changed mine to a waterless coolant not long after I bought it ( I like this in all my bikes) and have never in the last 7 yrs had to add any more. Good stuff, not cheap but works well.
